As of June 1st, Bethany Beach Town Council replaced vast amounts of parking with Resident Only Parking. The town council eliminated all non-resident parking east and west of Atlantic avenue, except for Garfield parkway and Pennsylvania Avenue. The impact has already discouraged non-residents from visiting and enjoying their time. Bethany Beach and Sussex County locals are welcoming as a whole and do not support the exclusivity. In addition, the economy and community of Bethany and all of Sussex county relies heavily on non-residents and tourism, as Bethany Beach is a resort town.

To clarify, all “resident only parking” is 24/7 which means only residents can park, never giving an opportunity for non-residents to park for free, before 10am or after 4pm, like it used to be. Our restaurants, retail stores, local businesses and families deserve to have a fighting chance, after Covid-19 has nearly decimated these industries. In addition, over the last 14 years, Bethany Beach has received over $40 million from the federal government, i.e., our tax money to replenishment and maintain the beach for tourism. We believe because Bethany Beach has accepted this money, they cannot deny ease to access the beach.

Please sign below if you would like the parking to revert back to its original state, prior to June 1st changes. The new map, as of June 1st, that demonstrates all of the parking changes and restrictions, is the cover photo for this petition. Please contact the Bethany Beach Town Council and/or sign this petition. Locals, tourists, small businesses and Americans thank you for the support!

Emailed BB Admin but received no reply. If your intentions with the new parking plan are to chase people away, you are already succeeding. It’s short-sighted at best as your plan is insulting to your most supportive communities and visitors.

I live in 19967..exactly 2 miles from Bethany Beach. I have worked in Bethany the last 3 years for a local business. This parking “ plan” is ridiculous! We cannot discourage tourism and locals from supporting businesses especially at this time.

The parking situation is very discriminatory to those of us who own houses right outside of Bethany Beach proper. When we visit our property here in Ocean View we are unable to use the beach or visit commercial establishments because of the lack of parking.

It’s a shame. Resident outside of Bethany in Ocean View cannot enjoy the beach like they have been. You’ve lost a customer for sure from me. I’ll go to other Surrounding towns. We don’t even go to Bethany for the beach we go for the shops and restaurants.

If you take away the parking you should replace it with free bus service. Have a park and ride for 200 cars. Run buses from there into Bethany every 1/2 hr. After season it should be every 2 hours. Peak season might require 5 buses. And its FREE

Please don't punish the local businesses that we so love. I love that Bethany does not have chains like other beaches do. They have great local businesses like Surfs Up and Pomadorro's. Please ease the parking restrictions by the end of June.

Not sure why these changes were implemented. Most, if not all, BB residences appear to have multiple parking spaces in front of, behind, or under their homes plus resident only parking on the residential streets. Parking is limited and this makes it almost impossible to find a parking place for “locals” who don’t qualify for residential permits.
