Final supporters
The Chalet at French Alpine Bistro was developed at the beginning of the pandemic as a solution to the pandemic. It has provided much needed 45 seats in the dining scene of Aspen and was created by local owner, Karin Derly.
Penultimate reasons to keep The Chalet:
- It has created 10 additional full-time employment opportunities for local people, enabling locals to continue to afford living in town (25% increase in employment at FAB).
- It has increased the dining options by 45 seats. Ten of which are held for local reservations, ensuring that locals can always come in, in smaller groups. Aspen lost 3 restaurants over this past season - reducing seating capacity by over 500 seats per night, per seating!
- Aesthetically speaking, The Chalet has been admired as a beautiful place to enjoy dining in as a safe and secure structure.
- People still want to be seated at a distance, and so The Chalet allows for this to be possible. The pandemic might be "over" but the public is even more aware of health concerns so people still want to be seated at a distance or upstairs. The Chalet allows for this to be possible.

I checked the screen and we are almost at a thousand names but I know we can get there if everyone just grabs their phone right now and texts a neighbor about the Chalet. It is honestly so wild to see this growing while I am pacing around thinking about those ten jobs and the empty seats we lost in town lately because we really need to keep this energy moving forward before things get stagnant again.

I just looked at the count and we are almost at one hundred signatures which is honestly wild because I really just wanted to see if anyone else cared about keeping the Chalet alive in town. If you can just grab a neighbor or someone who loves this place and get them to click that button right now it would totally help us get over this first hurdle before I have to go talk to the board.

The Chalet has helped the local economy as well as many service industry workers in this town. Among the housing crisis, this extra restaurant space offers second jobs to those struggling to afford housing.
We have come to Aspen specifically for the Chalet this bringing business to other restaurants and shops while visiting for a long weekend and helping Aspen’s economy. Please retain this amazing and COVID friendly dining experience! We aren’t out of the pandemic yet!
This is one of the few restaurants that still maintains a local feel and sensibility. The pricing is also the best in town for the product they deliver. Why not protect and invest in our locals by protecting this asset?
The city can keep charging rent for use of the street/sidewalk. A few lost parking spaces are a small price to pay for a lovely venue that provides jobs. Unlike some temporary outdoor structures, this one is not an eyesore. It was very nicely done, inside and out.
As former residence of Aspen and regular visitors, we chose to celebrate my father’s 86th birthday at this wonderful restaurant and sat in the chalet. Had the chalet not been available they could not have accommodated our group and one of the most special memories we will ever make in Aspen.

The outdoor Chalet with views of Ajax is a step in the right direction against the "vegas/disneyfication" of aspen that is taking place with the invasion of chain restaurants...SAY YES TO LOCAL OLD WORLD CHARM IN ASPEN!
