The Dept of
Consumer Affairs wants to take away the sidewalk cafe permit that Alpha has had
for 5 years. The reason being, they might have made an error in issuing the
permit to us all those years ago.
Alpha is a
small minority-owned business. The outdoor café is the one of the few eating
establishments in the entire neighborhood that has outdoor seating for locals
to enjoy. In a commercial area, such as ours, this is very important to the
community.
At 24 feet,
the sidewalk outside the establishment is wide. The tables and chairs are not a
bother to any establishment in our vicinity. Further, there are no residential
properties around us.
By forcing
us to get rid of the sidewalk cafe, we would not only deprive our customers and
the community, but also our employees. The sidewalk generates roughly
$20k/month in the summer months and is a huge portion of our revenue. It would
be devastating to our business and our clientele if we were forced to shut this
down.
We look to
you to help us be able to keep this vital piece of the neighborhood in place!
Thank you for your consideration!
Alpha provides a great service to the community. Having the out door dining experiencce with the empire state building in the backdrop is an experience that should not be compromised. I am a resident of the area and would be very dissapointed if the city does not extend the permit.
