I want to express my concerns to the Gwinnett County Public Schools about the hiring of a new principal for Arcado Elementary School in 2010:

Arcado students need an energetic principal with a true appreciation of their unique needs.  Our students have forged a wonderful relationship with Mr. Ahrens and have the utmost respect and admiration for him.  We hope they will continue to have a principal who is regularly visible to them, and who treats them with the respect they deserve as an integral part of Arcado Elementary.

Our Arcado families are active in the school.  We have a strong reputation for involvement from parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends.  A principal who embraces the support we have to give to Arcado will make it an even stronger school.  Mr. Ahrens has maintained an open-door policy with his student, staff, and the community.  We would like our new principal to be accessible and quick to respond to the concerns of our incredibly diverse, close-knit, and well-established community.

Arcado has some of the best teachers in Gwinnett County.  Our regular classroom teachers, special areas teachers, and special education teachers are vitally important to the wonderful place that is Arcado Elementary School.  The high morale of our teachers and lack of turnover during the last few years at Arcado can be attributed to Mr. Ahrens' positive leadership.  Our teachers deserve to have a new leader who trusts, supports, and believes in them, allowing them to continue to provide our students with a world class education.

The Arcado Elementary PTA is looking forward to having a strong, working relationship with our new principal.  Our PTA is very active, and we have been fortunate to have worked so closely with Mr. Ahrens during his tenure as principal.  He has been an active member of the Arcado PTA and has most-recently served as Chair of the Membership Committee.

We look forward to continuing our long history of being a community-oriented school, led by a special principal who greets the students and staff with an open smile and an open heart!

I am honestly overwhelmed by the momentum we have built together lately. This is a testament to how deeply so many of you care about the future of our school and the people who make it special. I truly never imagined this would reach so many people.

The Gwinnett board makes so many bad choices. Keep him at Arcado!
