Up until Fall 2022, Austin Peay State University (APSU) offered free COVID-19 PCR testing for students, faculty, and staff. Now it costs students $10 to get tested (charged to student account). Many students have little to no income and may not be able to afford getting tested, making the $10 charge a deterrent for students to get tested when exposed to someone COVID-19 positive or when they become symptomatic. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Tennessee alone has had over 2,000,000 positive COVID-19 cases, with over 27,000 deaths as of September 22, 2022. Neglecting to provide free COVID-19 tests to students, faculty and staff suggests APSU does not care about the well-being of the APSU community. Signing this petition shows your support that APSU needs to offer FREE COVID-19 testing to students, faculty, and staff to ensure a healthy and safe learning environment.
It is crazy that they are charging us for this when we are already paying so much for tuition. Just put the money into health services instead of wasting it elsewhere.
