Sleepy Hollow Road is an extremely busy road that is currently unsafe for pedestrians. Adding sidewalks the length of Sleepy Hollow Road will benefit the entire Falls Church community by creating a safe pedestrian connection serving three elementary schools, four parks, two community pools, a church, and connecting thousands of neighbors.
The signers of this petition believe:
- Sleepy Hollow Road is extremely busy and unsafe for children and adults to walk, bicycle, or otherwise travel on;
- Children and their parents should be able to safely walk or bicycle to school, including Sleepy Hollow Elementary, Belvedere Elementary, and the Congressional Schools;
- Children and their parents should not have to wait for the school bus by standing unprotected on dangerous Sleepy Hollow Road, but instead should be able to wait for the school bus on a sidewalk with a curb;
- Neighbors throughout the Falls Church area should be able to safely walk and bicycle on sidewalks to the county's parks that are located on or near Sleepy Hollow Road;
- Neighbors throughout the Falls Church community should be be able to safely walk or bicycle up and down Sleepy Hollow Road on sidewalks to get to the community pools and tennis courts;
- Neighbors should be able to safely walk on sidewalks to get to church;
- Neighbors, both children and adults, should be able to safely walk or bicycle up and down Sleepy Hollow Road on sidewalks to visit their friends and neighbors throughout the community;
- Many neighbors would walk more throughout the community if there was a safe pedestrian passageway (sidewalks) up and down Sleepy Hollow Road;
- There are publicly-owned lands and public rights of way along Sleepy Hollow Road that should be used for the public's benefit as sidewalks;
- Sidewalks on Sleepy Hollow Road would significantly increase the quality of life of the greater Falls Church community; and therefore
- Adding sidewalks on Sleepy Hollow Road is urgently needed and their addition will greatly and positively affect the whole community.

The local council cannot keep ignoring us now that this momentum has become impossible for them to dismiss. We are holding their feet to the fire until they finally build these sidewalks and stop putting our children in harm's way.

so many cars cut through here to avoid traffic and they do not slow down for anything. sidewalks are long overdue.
been living here 15 years and it only gets worse. putting a sidewalk in is just common sense for the neighborhood.
too many close calls already. just put the curb in already.
FIX THIS ROAD NOW.
I walk my dog here every day and it is terrifying with the cars flying by. we need a sidewalk before someone gets hit.
