The school board has officially approved the proposal to rename the building in honor of Ann Sledge. I am deeply appreciative of your commitment to recognizing such a significant legacy in our community. We will observe the transition process closely to ensure the renaming is completed as promised.

Grady Middle School is one of the schools that has been selected to be renamed. Teri Marsh and many others have started an initiative to get Ann Sledge's name in consideration for Grady's new name.
Ann Sledge was the principal at Briargrove Elementary for six years, which feeds into Grady. Her son, along with hundreds of Briargrove students, attended Grady Middle School. Ann was connected to the school in many ways, and she deserves a chance to be considered for this huge honor.
We asked many of you to email Gretchen Kasper, principal at Grady ([email protected]), Harvin Moore, school board member ([email protected]), and Mike Lunceford, school board member ([email protected]) expressing your support in this project. We believe that the school should be renamed after Ann Sledge, and many of you agree and support this idea.
We have been told that it is unlikely that the school will be renamed after a person, but we believe that we have a chance if we continue to express our wishes. Ann has impacted thousands of educators and students, and she deserves this honor.

Ann Sledge dedicated her life to improving minds and hearts of young people across HISD. Her bi-lingual background only made her more effective in reaching a growing segment of the local population.
Please consider renaming Grady to honor Ann Sledge for the outstanding work that she did for the HISD community. R. K. Daily was named in 2008 for her accomplishments. Let's honor one of our own.
Ann Sledge was responsible for hiring my daughter for her first teaching job at Briargrove Elem.. Ann was an exceptional mentor and set an extremely high standard for those who worked under her exceptional leadership. I was a student at Grady in the 1950's and I would be very proud to see the school renamed for Dr. Sledge.
I had the honor of working with Ann as my principal for about 7 years. She was a great supporter of children and educators. She so deserves having a school named in her honor because she brought such honor to the field of education.
This honor would mean so much to Ann's family, but also to the hundreds of students who were lucky enough to attend Briargrove when she was Principal. A neighborhood connection for a great neighborhood school!
Ann's integrity lives in the hearts and minds of so many. It would be appropriate to see her name on Grady Middle School.
I wish for Grady Middle School's name to be changed to Ann Sledge Middle School. Thank you, Dana Azar

Dr. Sledge is more than deserving of this tribute. She always expected the best of herself, and dedicated her life to helping her students and teachers achieve their full potential. She was a role model of which any school should be proud.
