The new Starbucks currently going into the Downing Shopping Center on the corner of Los Gatos-Almaden Rd and Union Ave. has just had their permit request to sell beer and wine during limited hours by the City of Los Gatos rejected. It seems no business in this shopping center is allowed to sell beer and wine. Please sign this petition if you are in favor of the city allowing the sale of beer and wine, so folks in the neighborhood are not forced to drive to either Los Gatos or Campbell to enjoy an after work glass of wine or beer. The City should then reverse their decision on Starbuck's permit.

I was just driving past the shopping center and thinking about how ridiculous it is that we have to burn gas just to grab a drink nearby. The silence from the city office is getting loud though and I have a feeling they are hoping we just get bored and quit because they haven't sent a single response to my inquiries yet.

Seeing this much energy behind the idea of just having a glass of wine locally is honestly wild and I spent way too much time reading through why everyone else feels the exact same way I do. It makes me realize that we are definitely not just imagining how inconvenient the current rules are for the whole neighborhood and it feels like the momentum is finally shifting in a real way.

Beer and wine with limited hours seem completely reasonable for this Starbucks. It would fill a empty niche for our neighborhood of having a place within walking distance for friends to gather and have an evening drink. Even better it would be a nice gathering place for those that might want a glass of wine or a beer and have friends that don't drink and would have other great options. A nice addition to the Downing Center Plaza and our neighborhood.

There is no reason not to provide this service to local residents. There used to be a liquor store on the premises. There is no competition with any restaurants or shops other than Safeway where you can't drink the beer and wine that you buy. The Town of Los Gatos should reverse its decision for the residents who live near Downing Center! Anyway, why is this governed by LG when the middle school is SJ?

I would love my neighborhood Starbucks to sell beer and wine! A local spot that we can walk to it needed here!

Beer and wine should be allowed. My friend. just started serving wine and beer in her neighborhood coffee shop in Menlo Park and it has been well received with no problems. What seems to be the big concern here? Safeway sells take out beer & wine. One could conceivably open and drink in the car or parking lot!

Having been to one of the Starbucks that has their "after dark" feature, I can safely say this would be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. They serve beer and wine only in the evening and for limited hours. It is not a "bar" and they also serve their regular menu of non-alcoholic drinks and food options. It would be nice to be able to walk to a nearby locale for a glass of wine or a beer and some snacks. Please consider speaking to the neighborhood about this and let us voice our opinions.

It would be nice to have a nice place to enjoy wine or beer in walking distance. I'm sure LG wants to minimize car trips to bars.
