As an update, to be completely accurate, an executive at Starbuck's decided to pull the request for liquor permit in order to get the store opened faster. However, I've spoken with staff at the store and they've told me Starbuck's is aware of this neighborhood petition and potentially rethinking (or at least keeping this option open) for the future. Once there is about 200 signatures on here, I'll reach out to the Starbuck's executive and approach him with this petition to discuss what it would take to convince them to sell beer and wine. Hands down I believe they'd make money, is totally reasonable for the neighborhood, and wouldn't pose any issues.

Beer and wine with limited hours seem completely reasonable for this Starbucks. It would fill a empty niche for our neighborhood of having a place within walking distance for friends to gather and have an evening drink. Even better it would be a nice gathering place for those that might want a glass of wine or a beer and have friends that don't drink and would have other great options.
A nice addition to the Downing Center Plaza and our neighborhood.

There is no reason not to provide this service to local residents. There used to be a liquor store on the premises.
There is no competition with any restaurants or shops other than Safeway where you can't drink the beer and wine that you buy.
The Town of Los Gatos should reverse its decision for the residents who live near Downing Center!
Anyway, why is this governed by LG when the middle school is SJ?

Just found out that Starbuck's withdrew their permit request to sell beer and wine to expedite the approval process for the business permit. However we should still sign this petition and deliver to the city of Los Gatos to pressure them to helping get some business into the shopping center that is a good fit and sells beer and wine. New text for the petition should read:
"The new Starbucks currently going into the Downing Shopping Center on the corner of Los Gatos-Almaden Rd and Union Ave. has just had a permit request to sell beer and wine during limited hours into the City of Los Gatos, but pulled it in order to get a quicker approval on moving in. It seems businesses in this shopping center are challenged to sell beer and wine. Please sign this petition if you are in favor of the city allowing the sale of beer and wine, so folks in the neighborhood are not forced to drive to either Los Gatos or Campbell to enjoy an after work glass of wine or beer. "

Beer and wine should be allowed. My friend. just started serving wine and beer in her neighborhood coffee shop in Menlo Park and it has been well received with no problems. What seems to be the big concern here? Safeway sells take out beer & wine. One could conceivably open and drink in the car or parking lot!
