The Reserve Bank finally opened the exchange window for OCI and PIO cardholders. It took way too long to get here but I am relieved that our families no longer have to lose their hard earned money. Thank you for staying loud about this injustice until they finally listened.

No provisions or policy made by RBI for OCI (Overseas Indian Citizen) or PIO (People of Indian Origin) card holders to convert the travel money they may possess. Please sign a petition on behalf of thousands of OCI / PIO card holders who do not fall into NRI category for whom the provision of conversion is extended till end June 2017.
People with OCI/PIO can't exchange old notes unlike NRIs!
Often OCI / PIO visit parents or family in India and when going out of the country end up carrying unused currency for a possibilty to use on the next visit. Thousands are in this situation where have old currency notes of 500 and 1000 leftover in the vallets. RBI should make some provision for these notes which get carried away by OCI/PIO abroad.
Key Points:
1. Policy specific to OCI / PIO card holders to exchange the old INR currency notes 500 / 1000 they may possess.
2. Ability to convert these at country of residence of OCI / PIO as for many difficult to travel back to exchange.
3. Provision to exchange these when arriving in India possibly at airports.
4. Uniform rules and clarity on regulations relating specific to OCI / PIO card holders.

Seeing 250 people back this effort hits home because I know firsthand how much stress these leftover notes have caused families like mine. It is clear I am not the only one struggling with these rules while trying to visit relatives back home.

My own elderly parents are still waiting for a fair policy that recognizes our status as family rather than tourists. We are nearing two hundred fifty names and need a final surge to force the board to acknowledge us.

I followed the instructions provided before leaving the U.S. and had the currency noted at Customs, went to one of the five RBIs designated, only to have the rules change. How is this equitable treatment of Overseas Citizens who bring business into this country?
There should be an arrangement to get the currency exchanged at Indian banks outside India. Not all people are making trips back home every few months. We only came back from India in September and got some Indian currency!
We pay house tax , electricity charges and come every year in January to keep in touch with our roots and relatives but are excluded from the purview of being able to exchange old currency, even as we were not in the country till 5 the January 2017
I am an OCI card holder and am Unable to convert small amouts of 500/1000 rupee notes left over from my last vist to Goa in August'16. This is money exchanged legally during my vists to India and OCI should be given the opportunity to exchange the old notes for new.
I was able to become an OCI precisely because I was born an Indian, meaning an NRI. This discrimination is really unfounded. As an OCI I come regularly to India, and spend money there, helping Indian economy. Measure like this discourage us from coming to India
Its a very bad decision made by indian government why they have excluded people with OCI .if they cant visit india for some reason it means their money is wasted and law doesn't say they are not allowed to keep indian currency
I feel they should allow us to convert old 500 and 1000 rupeee notes.

I have some old currency. I had to have this money on hand during my prior departure from India, for emergency purposes, since I'm old. I'd like to be able to exchange this money, since this is neither fake nor black. It is hard-earned money, on which taxes have been paid.
