Dear External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj,
As a loyal overseas citizen of India, NRI/OCI/PIO, I would like to express my desire to become a full dual citizen of India with all the consequential citizenship privileges and responsibilities. Given the unique context of dual citizenship, such privileges are envisaged to include all associated rights given to people holding current Indian Citizenship and in addition the right to hold an Indian Passport, the right to vote in Indian elections and the right to hold a public elected office in India.
As such, I would also like to express my desire that the Indian Government accordingly amend article 9 part 2 of the Indian Constitution to include provision of dual citizenship to enable NRI/OCI/PIOs residing overseas to obtain full dual Indian Citizenship and the aforementioned rights.
The "Overseas Friends of BJP Canada Toronto" has constituted a committee to actively pursue the matter with your office and this letter is sent through the aegis of this committee.

The momentum behind this push for dual citizenship is growing because we refuse to be treated as second class citizens by the government. The Ministry can no longer ignore the thousands of us demanding our full rights and the immediate amendment of the constitution.

I would be greatly interested. I am member of HSS in Canada. India is always on my mind and in heart. This will make sure that I have say in how India’s future is molded. I am hoping it allows me and my kids to vote for future of India. Jai Hind
I don't think there is anything they can do, until they amend the Indian Constitution, for that they need clear majority in Parliament, which they have with Narendra Modi. But do they want to? What's in it for them? Only time will tell if this is possible. Also only fifty to one hundred people signing for this petition will not do there are millions of Indians living in Canada and millions in USA and UK but they are not signing this petition, all will have to sigh to make this significant. So tell all your friends, family and the people you know, make them aware of this issue and get them to sign and do something about this if you want to see some action soon. This is the right time since they have clear majority in parliament to amend the Constitution.
As a Indian Origin and Legal Professional I want to say: If this Narendrabhai Modi led government will talk this initiative to give real Dual Citizen to Indian Origin people with all equal rights as a ordinary Indian that will be great step to give chance to OCI/PIO to serve Motherland with "MAN , DHAN AND KARMA" .
We have accepted Canadian citizenship because we live in this awesome country, which has offered us great privileges. But we are very much Indian at heart and love our India. Losing Indian citizenship is a very big price to pay to accept Canadian citizenship. We want true dual citizenship so that we can say we are proud to be Indians.
It will boost investment opportunity and thereby development of India very fast.

Giving back my Indian Passport was the saddest day of my life and I will never forgive myself for it. I have never been truly happy since that day. Circumstances force us to go abroad, work abroad and live abroad. Family situations force us to become citizens of other countries, but we do not want to give up our roots, Indian identity, indian passports and a chance to contribute fully to the betterment of Bharat, my country, my origin. BJP was the party that started OCI / PIO cards and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. Narendra bhai, please take it to the logical conclusion. Give us our identity back. We will always remember you. India will only benefit from this, there is nothing to lose.
