Winter Springs is a great city to live and work in, especially for families with children, but it's lacking one important thing - a recreation center for its citizens. Many of the surrounding cities have their own centers, and if our own residents want to use one, they unfortunately have to go elsewhere. Thus, it's time we allocated the resources necessary to create our own facility. We are a growing city in a desirable location, and a nice recreation center would also make us a more desirable place in which people would like to relocate.

I feel a nice and successful recreation center that our citizens could all be proud of would include an indoor basketball gym (possible surrounded by a running track), a large pool that's also child-friendly, racquetball courts, a weight room, a space for table tennis tables (everyone loves playing this), and a few meeting rooms that could also be used for special events (or as rental opportunities). Some additional ideas are a child care area for toddlers, locker rooms, and a climbing wall. There would be modest rates for Winter Springs residents, and higher fees for non-residents, with discounts for longer-term memberships.

I don't expect the city to have the money on-hand to fund such a complex. But I would certainly be glad to support a reasonable tax to create a recreation center such as this, and every other resident that I've discussed this with would be glad to support this as well.

With enough online signatures, I feel this could be brought up and seriously discussed with the mayor and city council. If our residents want this and are willing to fund it, why shouldn't this become a reality? There are enough families, particularly with children, who would love to have and be proud of a local sports complex here instead of having to travel elsewhere for one.

Please consider signing this petition so that this can be seriously considered by our city leaders.
