Dear Sara Fisher: We are writing this letter to draw your attention that we, the undersigned residents of Southwestern Eagle County, respectfully request the support of the Eagle County Board of County Commissioners in our efforts to build a Community Recreation Center in the Roaring Fork Valley. In addition, we support the efforts of the “Friends of the Crown Mountain Recreation Center". Have you seen our Recreation Center How long do we have to wait for an indoor facility or even a community center We believe a Community Recreation Center is vital in providing for a healthy lifestyle and promotes a sense of community for all ages. We are looking to include an ice rink, climbing wall, basketball/volleyball courts, in-door tennis, running/walking track, in-door pool, meeting rooms and fitness center. Eagle County and the County Commissioners have been supportive of community / recreation facilities throughout the County and for promoting healthy lifestyles for all ages. Many of these projects would not have happened without the County’s financial and political support. A project of this size needs your political leadership and financial assistance to be successful. A collective, cooperative effort by all entities is critical to making a project like this a reality. We do have the financial support and cooperation from the Town of Basalt and the Crown Mountain Parks & Recreation District. Teens need a place to go after school that welcomes them to a safe and healthy environment. Recent reports state, the first hour after school dismissal traffic is increased while kids are cruising Basalt with no place to go. The highest crime rate for school age children goes up while kids hangout in groups & shop-lift causing mischief by climbing on the surrounding buildings and causing damage to the down town stores and offices. Childhood obesity is a serious health concern! While some children are engaged in some after school activities, others need to have a Mid Valley Recreation Center available for them to attend classes or sports related activities. Please encourage Eagle County to invest in our Crown Mountain Mid-Valley Recreation Center, Playgrounds, and Parks for our children, grandkids and elderly community. Please help us in explaining to Eagle County that you value your health and we are in dire need of a Mid-Valley Recreation Center by signing our petition today.
