Today, a child was tragically shot at one of our schools. This horrific incident is a stark reminder that our schools are no longer the safe havens they should be. Our community can no longer afford to wait for the next tragedy to take action.
We, the parents, students, teachers, and concerned citizens of Harford County, are coming together to demand immediate and proactive measures to ensure the safety of every child who walks through our school doors. No parent should have to fear for their child’s life while they are in school.
We demand the following safety measures be implemented in all Harford County Public Schools:
- Metal Detectors at Every Entrance: These are critical for detecting and preventing weapons from entering our schools.
- Mandatory Clear Backpacks for All Students: This will allow for better visibility and easier identification of dangerous items, significantly reducing the risk of violence.

Wait a few days after the incident to research solutions. A Google search will show you clear back packs are not effective and metal detectors are not practical and wouldn't have prevented past incidents. Different measures should be taken.
Seriously, considering going back to home school virtual learning for my son he might not be going back to school monday and he goes to joppa and was there . I'm triggered. We should havd better security measures in our school systems in hartford county. ‼️‼️‼️
As a student of Harford County Public Schools, I should feel safe in my school. I want to be able to learn in a safe environment. The schools wanna worry about phones, but not trying to set up metal detectors. What is wrong with us?
I’ve discussed this very topic with teachers and they agreed but could not make any important decisions for the school when some cared about our safety more than the education. I’d much rather feel safe then learn in a dangerous environment.

I keep hearing about ‘we r gonna get a life alert to kids so if they’re in danger, they can call for help’ when u need to STOP the danger by having it so u have to pass through a metal detector before u can enter any part of the school! Save the children before the danger happens!

Great day, I suggest and ask if metal detectors are put inside Joppatowne high. I would feel more at ease knowing my child would be safe inside the school. Kids are there to get an education and should not have to worry about being in danger while learning. Many thanks
