Gwinnett County Families,
We love the kids of this community and pray daily for their happiness, health and safety. The events on September 4, 2024 at Apalachee High School, Robb Elementary on May 24, 2022, Parkland High on February 14, 2018 and so many others are heartbreaking and horrifying.
This should not happen anywhere, ever again.
We REFUSE to sit by and not try our damn hardest to make an impact for our children.
So, what can we do, even if just in our small community? We can ask for a clear bag policy. We can demand it. Is it perfect, no. But is it something, YES. It's another deterrent, it's another catch to stop a weapon before it makes its way inside to our precious babies.
**We, the undersigned, are concerned parents, students, educators, and community members of Gwinnett County. We believe the implementation of a clear bag policy is a necessary step to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and school environments.**
In light of increasing concerns about school safety, it is imperative that Gwinnett County Public Schools adopt proactive measures to protect our children and staff. A clear bag policy, which requires students, staff, and visitors to use transparent bags when entering school grounds, has been successfully implemented in numerous school districts and public venues across the country as a preventive measure.
**The benefits of a clear bag policy include:**
- **Improved Safety:** Transparent bags allow for quicker and more efficient security checks, making it easier to identify potentially harmful items such as weapons or contraband.
- **Faster Entry Times:** Reduces the need for detailed manual searches, helping students and staff enter the building more efficiently while maintaining security standards.
- **Deterrent Effect:** The visibility of items inside the bag can act as a deterrent against bringing prohibited objects into the school environment.
We respectfully request that the Gwinnett County Public Schools adopt a clear bag policy that includes the following guidelines:
The implementation of this policy is a critical step toward ensuring the safety of all Gwinnett County Public Schools. We ask that the school board take this matter seriously and move swiftly to adopt this policy.
By signing this petition, we express our full support for the introduction of a clear bag policy in Gwinnett County Public Schools, as it will help foster a safer, more secure learning environment for all.

I was just reading through some of the notes people leave when they sign and it really underscores why this matters so much for our kids. My inbox is full of messages from folks asking for the next steps and honestly I am working on getting a meeting set up with the district office because we deserve to have a real conversation about safety.

Seeing all these names popping up is honestly a bit overwhelming because I just started this on a whim while scrolling through news updates and feeling helpless. It feels like people actually want the same protections I do and that realization is keeping me up way later than I probably should be tonight.

As a retired teacher I totally support this. Everyone deserves a safe environment.
My husband and I are both GCPS alumni (Parkview HS) as well as both of my parents (Parkview and Berkmar). I am proud to be a member of this community and I have faith that we can come together to make school a safe place for our children.
Please expend this petition to other county school districts too!!!! I am in Fulton county but I agree this could be helped to reduce this terrible thing happening again.
More needs to be done for student and school safety. Clear bags are just a start. Mental health awareness needs to be implemented as well as potential metal detectors.
Yes clear bag, but it should be a free bag for families, and successful uniform attires are helpful too.
Oh yes

For the kid's and staff’s safety, I highly suggest clear bags for everyone. Safety is the first.
