We, the residents of Canterbury City Council petition the Council to allow community groups and existing users, both active and passive, access to Waterworth Park now and ongoing.

A proposal which represents the interests of up to 8 organisations including Cooks River Titans Football Club, Wolli Creek Preservation Society, NSW Touch, etc has consistently been ignored with no good reason. Council must conduct a management plan along with community consultation on the whole Gough Whitlam Park/Waterworth Park precinct and make decisions on what will best serve the community.

Currently, all decisions on the Gough Whitlam Park/Waterworth Park precinct have been made with no plan of management nor any consultation with the community. Such decisions include a kids playground on Gough Whitlam Park, a bike park on Gough Whitlam Park and an Archery Range on Waterworth Park.

As the community we demand that we be heard and acknowledged by Councillors who were elected to represent us.

Seeing 250 signatures on this petition reminds me why I started fighting for our parks in the first place. My kids grew up playing in these green spaces and they deserve to have that same access protected. Thank you for showing the council that this community cares about the future of our local land.

Seeing this level of response confirms that I am not the only one who feels ignored by the council regarding our parks. My kids grew up playing in these spaces and knowing you are fighting alongside me to protect them means everything.

an archery park would under-utilize Waterworth Park as it would be dangerous for any other activity to occur there, like walking the dog, going bushwalking, having a picnic by the river, practicing the saxaphone or bag pipes, playing football, all of which happen now on a daily basis.

This area should be used as a multi recreation facility, not for one purpose only. This proposal appears to be self centred, unrealistic, and favouring one single sport, whereas current usage allows for more than one sport to enjoy the facilities (therefore reaching greater members of the community vs a narrow demographic)

There is already a huge expansion of unit dwellings being constructed in the Canterbury council area bringing in many new residents. There is now a greater need for community consultation on public areas for the best interests of the greater community and I support the Cook River Titans proposals

Please do not make this area unsafe for general users. Soccer is a great sport for community fitness. I support the Cooks River Titans' request to use this park. Why was this not discussed at the Council meeting?

Gough Whitlam Park open green space is not suitable for a bike park. It is crucial open space for public gatherings, such as the Cooks River Day out last Saturday 22 August, attended by over 900 community members, young families and interested people.

I support the development of management plan for the Gough Whitlam Park/Waterworth Park precinct. I specifically have an interest in the use of these parklands for team based sports such as soccer.

Please retain the open space - this parkland area is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. Consult widely with the community before taking action.
