We, the residents of Canterbury City Council petition the Council
to allow community groups and existing users, both active and passive, access
to Waterworth Park now and ongoing.
A proposal which represents the interests of up to 8 organisations
including Cooks River Titans Football Club, Wolli Creek Preservation Society,
NSW Touch, etc has consistently been ignored with no good reason. Council must
conduct a management plan along with community consultation on the whole Gough
Whitlam Park/Waterworth Park precinct and make decisions on what will best
serve the community.
Currently, all decisions on the Gough Whitlam Park/Waterworth Park
precinct have been made with no plan of management nor any consultation with
the community. Such decisions include a kids playground on Gough Whitlam Park,
a bike park on Gough Whitlam Park and an Archery Range on Waterworth Park.
As the community we demand that we be heard and acknowledged by
Councillors who were elected to represent us.
an archery park would under-utilize Waterworth Park as it would be dangerous for any other activity to occur there, like walking the dog, going bushwalking, having a picnic by the river, practicing the saxaphone or bag pipes, playing football, all of which happen now on a daily basis.
