Newcastle Council has decided to now charge all military associations for the privilege of marching. The hire of chairs, flagpoles and wet weather premises now needs to be paid for by the associations.
Out of all the services that Newcastle Council pays for this should be one of them. Imagine our Soldiers having to hold a cake stall so they we can pay our respect, just ludicrous!
The Council also failed to have anyone turn upto the National Services Ceremony at Civic Parkon Sunday 16th March 2014, not one dignitary!
We raised the money ourselves for the National ServiceMemorial on the 16th March.
To pay for all the military ceremonies over the year in Newcastle it would cost the council $20,000 yet they refuse, The Lord Mayor stating that they are in dire financial circumstances. In the next breath they are looking at a $5million memorial walk. Their priorities are not right.
The Lord Mayor is not budging on this issue, raised with no response in council several times.
We will be meeting with Newcastle Council with these signatures to voice our opinion. The more signatures the louder our voice.

This decision by NCC is appalling. Soldiers past and present put their lives on the line for our freedom, our way of life, and their loss is our countries burden to bear and honour. How disprespectful and petty of NCC and the Mayor to make this decision on their constituants behalf. It is discraceful and needs to be overturned.
Absolutely disgusting. As a servicing member I find this highly in Australian and an insult to those brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
My family were pioneers in the 1820's they fought I and died in WW1&2. As a history teacher I share my family's story of struggle and sacrifice to our next generation of leaders. We need to model the Anzac values and traditions- not put a price on the ultimate sacrifice.
My partner is currently serving in ADF. this is a disgrace Newcastle...if it wasn't for our military we would not have the Freedom we enjoy today...hang your heads in shame !
Do you think the Digger's had the option to down tool on Sunday - imagine that!! All you had to give was a couple of hours in return for the blood they gave you! Have more respect!
This is how they betray all those who fought/fight for their safety and future. They should be disgusted with themselves. Respect to the military.

perhaps the council should better appreciate benefits defence brings to Newcastle. Millions of dollars each year spent on wages, housing, industry support. this is just a few and most of the wages go to local business. millions of dollars spent by defence in Newcastle so wake up council.
