Leases are expiring on our WW1 and WW2 Diggers' graves and those graves will be reused if families don’t know about their expiry and/or cannot afford to renew leases. We need urgent action to prevent the graves from being reused. This affects soldiers who survived the war and returned home and later died from injuries unrelated to their military service, all others are protected by the Office of Australian War Graves.

All Australians whose grave or niche has an expired lease which has not been renewed after two years can have their site reused. This involves the 'lift and deepen' process whereby the human remains are excavated, placed in an ossuary, reburied deeper in the grave and a new burial is placed on top leaving no record of the earlier burial.

We need the support of as many people as possible to show the Government that we don't want Diggers graves being reused in Australia. Saving Diggers graves is saving our heritage, culture and history, most of all showing respect to those that went before us. These men and women put their lives on the line to protect our country many do not have any surviving family members so in turn no voice or means to be saved. We can not allow this to occur. We must protect them as they did us selflessly.

These graves are our history when they are gone a part of our history goes with them. Don't let this happen, they need your voice!

Please sign this petition and share with as many people as possible.

I am a 14 year old girl who has been extremely saddened by the events in South Australia. My mission is to protect all Diggers graves in any country. My family served and I would like to serve in the future. Take your hats off and show a final salute the these brave servicemen & women

I have been spending my evenings reading through the stories families are leaving about their own relatives and the fear of losing these final resting places. My grandfather fought for this country and he deserves to be remembered rather than cleared away for a new lease. We are currently compiling these accounts to present to the cemetery boards as proof that this disregard for our history is unacceptable.

Seeing this grow makes me think of the families who feared their loved ones would be forgotten forever. It is overwhelming to realize how many of you value the memory of those who served. Your commitment to protecting these final resting places gives me hope that we can stop the reuse of these graves.

I think its totally disgusting that our Diggers final resting place is being desecrated....if they had of died on foreign soil then they would have a final resting place forever....but they managed to come homeso therefore they should be looked after in the same manner.....treat our diggers with respect & leave their final resting places in Peace..

i think this is disrespectful! Our people fought for our freedom, they should be able to rest in peace! No one should touch their resting place, leave them alone. Diggers family's shouldn't have to pay renew leases.

I don't think it should make a difference how long our Aussie soldiers have been placed they gave their lives so we can enjoy ours even after all these yrs. we should never forget their sacrifice not now not ever LEST WE FORGET. I come from a very strong military background very proud of that very proud to be an Aussie

My grandfather was a British soldier who fought alongside a unit of Diggers in France on the Somme and he had a great admiration for their fighting spirit. I hope this petition is successful in saving their graves.

I'm behind this 100% this shouldn't even have to mentioned. How would they like it if we did it to their family members. They had fighted for our country lest we could do is let them RIP and show them some respect.
