Citizens of Newcastle, WA:

Join 100+ of your neighbors to make the Newcastle city council financially accountable. Sign this petition today! http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/time-sensitive-...

At the March 21, 2017 City Council meeting, Newcastle Watchdog (NW) co-chair, Bill Erxleben requested the 2017 Annual Town Hall Meeting be set for late September when budget numbers are available for an intelligent, data-driven, financial discussion about the 2018 budget, taxes, and spending priorities.

This was the original intent of the Annual Town Hall Meeting. But, the City Council continues to plan for a 2017 Annual Town Hall Meeting in the summer when budget numbers are not available.

Now is the time to make our voices heard.

Please sign this petition and share this link with your Newcastle friends and Newcastle Facebook networks. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/time-sensitive-...

This petition represents all citizens of Newcastle, who understand the financial concerns of our city. All concerned citizens in every household are encouraged to sign this free, online petition.

The completed petition will be delivered to the Newcastle City Councilmembers on Tuesday, April 4.

If you have any questions, you’re welcome to contact me.

Thank you.

Updates

April 4, 2017

The Newcastle City Council is clearly hoping to dodge real questions by rushing this meeting before the budget numbers are ready. They are counting on our apathy while they play games with our tax dollars. I am sick of the silence and we are going to force them to look us in the eye when we hand this over.

April 4, 2017

The Newcastle City Council thinks they can ignore our demands for fiscal transparency, but this wave of support proves they are wrong. We are building enough momentum to force these people to face the public on our terms.

I support town hall meeting with the next budget proposal already published before council action

Wish our city government use taxpayers' money in a proper way. Newcastle is not a big city, so any overspending mistakes may cause worse consequence.

City Council of Newcastle is responsible to work FOR the citizens of Newcastle; this includes transparency and sound financial strategies that maintain/enhance/support/protect our neighborhoods, Instead, our infrastructure is struggling to handle the growth of "approved land use" at the expense of our trees, trails, and ability to get from point A to point B. In return, we continue to be assessed at home values not yet realized in our neighborhoods, and asked to pay additional fees and taxes.

September is much better for a meeting but they must give a date and time EARLY so busy people can plan!

Please hold a town hall meeting in September, when more people are in town and when the budget numbers are available for 2018.

Its well past time for Newcastle City government to embrace total transparency. Based on previous performance, and attempts to evade citizen oversight particularly, with regard to financial and tax decisions the citizens now demand full disclosure of all proposed or pending revenue and spending proposals before decisions are made or actions taken.

We need to see the full logical base. WOW! I agree with Bill! Rare is rare. Put that in the family bible! But, he is right. We need to see the basics. Not a fluff show.
