- My name is Charlotte Sardone. I am creating this petition to send to the Town of Brookhaven about my personal property I own. I have a son who has Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas are mistakenly destroyed by the body’s immune system. People with T1D are dependent on injected or pumped insulin to survive. Their is no cure. It take meticulous planning to stay alive, which means his childhood is altered. He can’t be left alone with just anyone. He doesn’t have sleepovers because someone needs to be able to maintain his pump because he sleeps through the alarms. Life has been different since his diagnosis’s in April 2017. Riding his bicycle in his yard should not bother anyone. This is his outlet for his everyday struggles.
- I have wrote a letter to the Lake Panamoka Civic Association to guarantee that my children’s bicycle track on my property is only for bicycles. I guarantee no ATV’s or dirt bikes will ride on track and that I will maintain landscaping.
- I am petitioning that my property is not bothering my neighbors and that children should be allowed to ride their bicycles in their own yard. It shouldn’t matter that I’m a corner lot, so the town calls it 2 front yards. A child riding a bicycle in a yard on a track is way safer then the streets to get hit by a car or block traffic. As for typical, how is it not typical for a child to play a sport and practice it at home.

Leave this family alone. It's her property and this is something special for her kid. How would you feel if someone was taking something away from your special needs child that made them happy. Selfish and insane to even have to sign a petition to try and stop something so minor.
Children that play close to home especially on their own property instead of roaming the streets shouldn't be penalized. I hope the town will take the health issues of this child into consideration .I sincerely hope they reconsider.
As a pediatric PT I can say that the physical activity that your son gets from this riding track can only benefit his general well being & health. I hope that your family & the town can come to some resolution on this matter that will allow you to keep the track. Best of Luck!
The only thing...as a landscaper...that should concern the town with a corner lot is overgrown trees, shrubbery what have you, that could block a driver from making a turn at that intersection. We live in the land of no. Let kids be kids.
I can't imagine the hardship this family is going through. I have a little understanding because I have type 2 diabetes . This kid is using a pedal bike, not a dirt bike. Shame on the neighbors. Keep riding kid

I have lived in this neighborhood my whole life. We have bigger problems to deal with than kids riding bikes in their own yard. This property is also in a secluded corner of the neighborhood where there is less traffic this is not an issue at all. Let the kids ride their bikes!
