Decision Makers: Rock Ridge Public Schools Board of Directors

We support a pay increase for our invaluable playground aides.

Grades K through 6 enjoy daily non-instructional play time under the supervision of playground aides. These staff members do essential work every day with watchful eyes on all students, helping to keep the playground safe, welcoming, and calm. They support a bully-free environment, step in when problems start, and help children learn how to share space, solve small conflicts, and grow through play.

Playground aides are often the adults who make free time possible in a way that is orderly and secure. They notice what others may miss, they respond quickly, and they help create the kind of school day where children can relax, move, and build healthy habits. Their presence matters to students, to families, and to the whole school community.

Right now, their pay does not reflect the importance of the work they do. We believe that if a job is truly invaluable, it should be valued in a real and fair way. A pay increase is a simple and respectful step toward recognizing their contribution and helping schools keep good aides in place.

We call on the responsible decision-makers to raise pay for playground aides and show that the safety, growth, and well-being of students are worth investing in.

I believe this job is important and the employees that do this job should be seen and appreciated for the work they accomplish. I also would like to point out thay had we had a pay increase earlier I would have most definitely would have stayed on as an aide.
