Petition: Support Edmonton and Sturgeon District School Staff for Fair Compensation and Stability in Education
Petition: Support Edmonton and Sturgeon District School Staff for Fair Compensation and Stability in Education
We, the undersigned, stand united with the support staff of Edmonton Public Schools and Sturgeon District Schools in their fight for fair wages and overdue compensation. This is not just about salaries or raises—this is about the children, the heart of our educational system, and the stability of their education.
Why Support Staff Matter
Support staff are the backbone of our schools. They ensure classrooms run smoothly, assist students with diverse needs, and maintain the infrastructure that allows teachers to teach and students to learn. This includes office administrators who manage essential school operations and provide vital support to staff, students, and parents. Without them, the entire system falters, and our children bear the consequences. Their livelihood is directly tied to the valuable work they do in our schools, and their roles are an essential part of children’s education.
The Impact on Our Children
Every day that negotiations drag on and a fair resolution is delayed, our children lose out. The absence of support staff disrupts routines, undermines learning, and creates instability in an environment where children thrive on consistency. Education is not something to be gambled with—every moment is precious, and every role within the school is essential.
The Call for Action
We, as parents, teachers, and community members, demand immediate action to resolve this dispute. We urge decision-makers to:
- Recognize the value and contributions of support staff.
- Provide fair and timely compensation that reflects the critical role they play.
- Avoid prolonged negotiations that risk unnecessary disruption to students’ education.
Approach Your MLA
This is not just about the livelihood of support staff—it is about the invaluable role they play in our schools. We urge everyone with children to approach their MLAs and demand that this issue be addressed swiftly. It is a disservice to undervalue their time, forcing them onto the picket lines, and a waste of resources that could be better spent supporting education.
Residents in the Sturgeon District, as well as all other districts, are encouraged to contact their MLAs and advocate for immediate action.
Education Must Come First
Let us be clear: this is not just about salaries. It’s about ensuring our children receive the education they deserve, uninterrupted and supported by a fully functioning school system. It is unacceptable to compromise the quality of education due to avoidable delays in negotiations.
Rise Up and Support Our Schools
Parents, rise up and join the very people who spend countless hours with your precious children to ensure they have a great day and learn in a community that supports their needs. Let’s raise our voices and demand swift action to protect our children’s education and ensure fairness for the staff who dedicate their lives to our schools.

I am a parent and an EA. I can barely pay my bills and the job that we do is priceless!!! We need better pay! The children are our future
Give support staff a livable wage so they can support our kids, our future ! Education wages shouldn't have a cap! Support staff are the backbones of the schools, they get hit, bit, kicked, furniture thrown at them etc.. And it's okay for them to live in poverty, work 2-4 jobs when all they want is one job to focus on the the students and be able to go home to spend time with theirs!
Sturgeon School Division has not had a pay increase in years and needs to divide the funding fairly. Stop with the caps and adjust for inflation.
This strike needs to end ASAP. I support all the employees but I have been forced to take a leave of absence from my job while my son is home online. No compensation for the single parent's out of work now too.
We work together with teacher to ensure all children get the best possible education. Without our help, all kids won’t thrive and teachers can’t teach to the best of their abilities. EA’s are a crucial part of the teaching teams and we deserve to earn a wage that shows that!!
Our support staff is essential to the smooth running of our classrooms and the skills to assist students to learn and become as independent as possible.
Please help end the strike. The students and teachers need them.

Fair pay for hard working people! You owe it to them and to the children they support. You say you value education so put your money where your mouth is. Building more schools is great, but how about you support the people already employed in the schools we have first. Open your eyes, quit being short sighted. You can be the hero if you choose.
