We, the undersigned residents and pickleball enthusiasts of Bozeman, Montana, respectfully request the extension of operating hours for the city-owned pickleball courts back to their original schedule of 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, or at a minimum, to extend the current closing time to at least 8:00 PM.
Recently, the hours were reduced to 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM in response to noise complaints from neighbors near the courts. While we understand the concerns of nearby residents, the current hours severely limit court access for working individuals, families, and community members who rely on evening play due to school, jobs, or other commitments.
The City has already taken positive steps to address noise concerns by installing acoustic panels to reduce sound levels from the courts. These proactive efforts demonstrate that noise mitigation is possible without needing to limit access so drastically.
We believe that 6:30 PM is an unnecessarily early closing time, especially during the spring and summer months when daylight extends well into the evening. A compromise of closing the courts at 8:00 PM would respect both the needs of the surrounding neighborhood and the broader community of pickleball players.
Pickleball is a rapidly growing sport that promotes physical health, community connection, and outdoor activity. Bozeman residents of all ages and backgrounds have embraced it, and fair access to these public facilities should be preserved.
We urge the City of Bozeman to reconsider the current restricted hours and restore more reasonable access to these courts for the benefit of all.

It is light out until 9pm. We should be able to at least play until 7pm. We people who work do not get off until 5 or 6 pm and therefore cannot play on weekdays. I would like my tax money to allow me to play pickle ball on weekdays. There is sound proofing around the courts as well
Its tough for folks who have 8 am to 5 pm jobs to get to play any pickleball at the courts. Sunday hours also limited access to folks who can't play during the week. We would love to have extended hours so we can continue to play. I think last year's summer hours were a good middle ground for local residents and players
Please atleast put the hours back to what they were, this is one of the best social engagements in Bozeman and the prime hours of the day have been taken away, especially for working people that can’t show up until 6 or later
The Sunday times are even more unreasonable. 10-4 is so limiting and unreasonable. Please also reconsider allowing play at Southside . We regularly would play there in the evenings where we’d connect with all ages of players. Even if you require quiet balls, we would be happy to comply.
Because of my limited mobility, Pickleball is one of the only activities that I can participate in outside. I was annoyed with the hour changes because I get out of work at 5:30 which gives me a maximum of 30 minutes to play because of my commute! I would like to see the hours changed to be open longer so I can get my exercise in.
6:30? when every other park is open sunrise to sunset? who approved this
I would like to have clarity on the number of residents making noise complaints and the amount of money spent to mitigate those concerns relative to the number of residents in our city as well as the estimated number of players using the court. Just a cursory glance shows me that very few homes would potentially be impacted. Also, the parks are open- why aren't all of the facilities within the park available- specifically those that do not require staffing. Gatekeeping public amenities violates the use of our tax dollars. For residents complaining about noise, welcome to living in a neighborhood. I don't get to have the city spend countless dollars to investigate soundproofing the neighborhood dogs, and that's 24 hours a day. Living downtown means more public interaction.
