Fort Valley is a slice of heaven tucked away in the Massanutten Mountains of Shenandoah County. As mentioned on the counties website, https://visitshenandoahcounty.com/blog/post/serene-and-secluded-fort-valley-virginia/ , Fort Valley also holds its fair share of history. This historical and beautiful place is home to many residents who seek out a simple and quiet lifestyle. We enjoy low light pollution which allows us to stargaze, quiet nights which allow us to hear owls and coyotes howl, and a neighborhood where you can always depend on someone in the community for a helping hand. In a world that is growing and changing daily, Fort Valley has been safe from development and those that seek profit over peace. Until now. Recently, there have been several people applying for special use permits to build event centers, venues, and even resorts. These businesses would have a negative impact on the residents and wildlife in this area. Residents already have an overwhelming amount of both foot traffic, vehicle traffic, and bicycle traffic. There are Airbnb units, camping sites, OHV trails, an abundance of hiking trails, horseback riding, the OD 100 race, the Old Dominion Horse Club, and much more already taking place in this small 23 mile stretch of land. As a resident and long time visitor of Fort Valley, I have seen the growth of this place and fear for how it can be preserved, how can it be saved? This place is special for many reasons, and each person can attest to their love for this small valley.
We the people of Fort Valley are happy with the things already provided here that actual benefit us. We have a post office, fire department, library, country store, and a community that provides homemade goods. Resorts, venues, and any other business focused on those that don't live here, will have a longterm negative impact on those that actually call this place home.
This petition is to show residents of Fort Valley would like to be taken into consideration when the county is approached with any rezoning for agriculture or residential land. We DO NOT want any venues, resorts, cabin developments, etc in our home. Keep Fort Valley rural! This area must be saved. Help me stand up for her and sign your name below.

Fort Valley has one small water source; Passage Creek, which is not able to support these growing SUP requests for event centers, resorts, and other venues. These businesses are only here for profit, at the cost of our peace. And those here that close to the actual venues will suffer property value loss, due to the invasive lights, sounds, vehicles, trash left behind, and of course, the loss of the serenity their home once held.
Everyone who comes to Fort Valley leaves a footprint, but most of us are very mindful of the impact we have on this beautiful space and the impact our actions have on our family, friends and neighbors. Commercial growth isn’t progress, folks, it’s simply distorted self-interest.
Fort Valley is a very special place where the animals have room to roam and live freely, where the residence can live a quiet and peaceful life without an infestation of the outside world. We live here because we do not want to be around city life in anyway. What we currently have in the fort is sufficient and enough for us. We do not want any resorts, event centers, or anymore growth. GO AWAY AND LEAVE FORT VALLEY ALONE!!!
We need to stay rural that's why we come here, I have been here since 1972, that's why my parents came here. We have enough traffic also.
Do not destroy this delicate hidden gem by commercializing its resources.
This is our home, not your commercial property
I moved into Fort Valley many years ago to get away from Street lights and dense traffic. I don’t mind getting behind a tractor or hay truck, just don’t want to import extra vehicles for events other than a local hog roast or horse rider OD. The bicycle are already in danger and we expect a deer or possum on the road.
