Protect Rural Escondido was formed in 2025 by a group of concerned citizens and neighbors who are seeking to raise awareness of City annexations of County land for ultra-high density housing projects that threaten to permanently impact adjacent rural neighborhoods in unincorporated Escondido.
What makes this situation frustrating is that our local elected officials seem in favor of developers and to overlook the concerns and rights of long-standing residents. It's crucial that we preserve the unique character and value of Escondido’s rural neighborhoods for future generations. Should these landscapes be altered without thoughtfulness to the existing residents and communities, a trend of degradation to our region may begin.
We demand a balanced approach that respects and preserves the rural nature of our neighborhoods. Let’s protect the legacy of Escondido’s unincorporated rural areas from unchecked development.

While building on that land maybe inevitable, the scope of this continues to increasingly creep from what was originally discussed from the developer. It does not fit in with the rest of the neighborhood and we don't want high impact housing here affecting the traffic, the wildlife, and increasing the road noise, to name a few things
This is not the location for high density. Negative impacts to infrastructures and support services, and it creates more unincorporated "islands" that LAFCO has been trying to eliminate.
I oppose building high-density housing in the rural, unincorporated areas of Escondido. These lands are vital wildlife habitats and part of the natural character of our community. Development would displace animals, increase traffic, and strain local resources. Longstanding residents chose to live here for it rural, quite environment, and this kind of development would fundamentally change that. Once these areas are build over, they cannot be restored. I urge the city to protect these spaces and respect the residents who call this home.
I was born and raised in Escondido. (1995) I love my city. It gave me the small town feeling. I love the rural areas. My parents would drive us around to look at the farm animals. Now my city is growing. It truly saddens me because we are slowly losing that small town vibe. I get the whole idea of needing to add more housing as the population increases. But building on vacant lots in the rural areas is not the way to go. I’m signing to not let this housing development happen. KEEP Escondido with the small town feel. Thank you -Wendy
I’ve lived west of Felicita Park since 1987. We like not having sidewalks, street lights, etc. Keeping the unincorporated areas of San Diego rural means fighting annexation. I hope the County of San Diego considers the existing character of the area and works with the City of Escondido to approve a much less dense development in keeping with the existing neighborhood. The City of Escondido need to stick to the rules that are in place, and stop trying to fix the rules to their own liking. The laws in place exists for a reason, and should be respected on all counts.
Having local tax paying residents input while in planning stages is necessary at any housing development mtgs. Overcrowding areas, traffic, etc. can't be Undone.

This will destroy the little rural area we have in Escondido. This part of town already sees a high number of traffic coming off Bear Valley. This will increase that by tenfold.
