Decision Makers: Grant Laing

We, the undersigned residents of North Muirton, Perth, are asking PKC to allow front garden fences in our area.

At the moment PKC is refusing permission to erect fences around the front garden areas in North Muirton, while keeping the area open planned. Many of us feel this is no longer fair or practical, and that the rule is being kept simply because it has always been that way, not because it still meets the needs of the community.

Front garden fences would help protect our properties from dogs coming onto our land and fouling, people using our gardens as a shortcut, and unwanted access to the space we care for and maintain. They would also give families more peace of mind when young children are playing outside, and help people feel safer in their own homes.

Many residents already look after these garden areas, yet still have to pay for the privilege of disposing of the council’s grass cuttings. We also face weeds and overgrown vegetation spreading in from neighbouring properties, making it harder to keep our gardens neat and well cared for.

This is a simple request for a sensible change that would improve privacy, safety, cleanliness, and pride in our neighbourhood. If you agree, please sign this petition and support our call for PKC to reconsider and allow front garden fences in North Muirton, Perth.

Although the front gardens are council owned, the residents are having to pay to maintain and dispose of the land and so we feel we have the right to maintain it fully as we wish. I also would like a secured area for my baby who is starting to walk and i want a safe enclosed area for her.

I have an autistic son, and an enclosed front garden would make it safer if he ever got out the front door

Agree with haveing to maintain but not allowed to protect. It is outrageous. The council has to choose one. Either take over the maintaining or allowing the owners to fence, plant flowers, etc.

Not being able to fence off my front garden prevent me from allowing my kids to go out there safely. Stray dogs are constantly shitting on it and I’m the one that has to pick it up and cut the grass, not the council.

I too would like to put a fence my front area . This is council land however they refuse to maintain it . Multiple people have done this already with no issues . I have small family and would like them to remain safe in the front area of my property.

Because other dogs are able to freely express themselves on our garden plus a little privacy is always needed
