The Diamond Head pickleball courts at the Donald A. Andrews Diamond Head Tennis Center need to be rebuilt and resurfaced, with permanent nets and lines, so this heavily used public space can continue serving the community properly.
Courts 8 and 9 are a major pickleball location, with four temporary courts and daily open play from dawn till dusk. Right now, the surface has worn down from age and weathering, and that has made the courts harder to use and less enjoyable for everyone who comes to play. These courts are not a small local feature; they are a busy public gathering place for recreation, social connection, and healthy activity.
The people affected include local residents and visitors staying nearby in Waikiki and the surrounding area. Many rely on these courts for daily open play, and the site has become a model for how open play can be structured to welcome all who want to participate in pickleball across Hawaii.
We ask that the courts be rebuilt and resurfaced with permanent nets and lines, similar to what has been done at Keehi Lagoon and Kailua District Park. This will improve playability, support the many people who use the courts every day, and help keep this important community space strong for the future.
We urge the responsible decision-makers to act now and restore these courts before the condition worsens further.

These courts are extremely utilized by people who otherwise would not be able to get out and exercise and meet new people. I play there usually 3 times per week in the morning and also on Wed and Thursday we have a group who started doing thus meetup from 3;00 pm to 6:00 pm. This group started about 5 years ago where I go out and help these Sr. Citizens in the age group ( 65-76) years old. We all have a wonderful time , meet new people and also always meet new tourist visiting from all over
These courts are used 7 days a week dusk till dawn. I play there 4 afternoons a week & I have connected with so many people who I consider my community. Many people visiting from the mainland show up often & we all try to show aloha. It would be nice if we had quality courts & nets not only for the locals but to give visitors a great experience & memorable impression!
There’s a long wait time at the courts already. We could really use more courts. But resurfacing would help a lot as the courts have many dings and scrapes. Permanent nuts would be amazing. This is also a place where tourist come every day. It would really highlight our beautiful state
We need this! There are so many cracks & dead spots on the courts. They are HEAVILY used!
Pickleball has become such an essential part of my fitness routine. I’d love to be able to play with my husband and friends!

My wife Jane and I have been visiting Waikiki every year for the past 4 years, every time during our visit we played pickleball at this facility, a great community with so much joy and friendship, it’s absolutely the time to make the improvements to the subjected courts and more importantly to make it a dedicated facility for pickleball!
