Access Sacramento's A Place Called Sacramento Film Festival has long been an independent artist's showcase of original talent and hard work. By allowing a completely AI generated movie to be shown at the festival, 2026 will see Access Sacramento cave to mediocre artificial artwork sourced from the backs of real artists with no use of local scenery, talent, or originality.

Normalizing using AI to create any art is shameful. It hurts people, it hurts the environment, it devalues human ingenuity and creativity. AI filmmaking is lazy filmmaking and it should not be given any audience in film festivals.
There is zero reason for me to go to an event using ai. I am not interested to see what a machine regurgitates, I am interested in humans creating ART. Generative ai is ip theft by the very way it works. Just unacceptable to call yourself performing art while using things a computer stole
This is an insult to filmmakers in Sacramento and hopefully can sway Access Sacramento’s leadership from being so out of touch.
AI has its uses as a tool and information analysis machine. It is not a replacement for the creativity of the human brain. I oppose AI made films and truly wish that the trend of their usage to replace artists comes to an end.
AI generated images exist only due to the unauthorized theft of thousands of images.There are 3 million people in the Sac Metro area - we have enough artists to not need AI. It is a betrayal on a massive scale to all of us to allow the AI film to continue unbothered. Human interaction is at the root of all art and by eliminating it, you are making something without a soul.
Fuck Ai generated movies in creative spaces???

AI has no place in a community film program, or anywhere really. Screening an ai film or promoting use of generative ai in any way is incredibly disrespectful to the filmmakers who are still putting real effort into their films, involving real people, and building community. Also stop telling participants to use AI for their posters and promos - connect them with local artists instead.
