The local council of the London Borough of Waltham Forest (LBWF) has announced (in the Public Notices section of 'Waltham Forest News' dated 2 July 2012 page 22) its intention to consider making the temporary Olympic parking zones permanent. Those of us signing this petition are residents and other interested parties of Zone G9 (the area commonly know as the 'Barclay Estate' and surrounding neighbourhoods) and we hereby strongly object to having a permanent controlled parking zone (CPZ) in our area. In some areas there are valid reasons for having a CPZ e.g. near a train station or hospital to protect residents from visitor parking. However, there is no such reason in Zone G9. We feel that LBWF have opportunistically used the temporary Olympic restrictions as a convenient excuse to attempt to introduce a permanent paid-for CPZ, in an effort to raise additional revenues from its residents. The residents of Zone G9 will not stand for this! We feel it would be grossly unfair for us to pay for residents parking permits and for visitors permits. If you feel strongly about this cause, then in addition to signing this petition you may also wish to send a personal letter of complaint. See the ‘blog’ section of this petition for the address you should send this to.
