Over the years there have been a number of very close near-misses involving cars and children from Fairford Primary School, Pre-School and Farmors trying to cross Leafield Road. This petition calls upon Gloucestershire County Council to install a Pelican crossing to allow children to safely cross the road on the way to and from school before a child is actually hit by a car.
The near misses on Leafield Road are happening too often. I am currently coordinating with the council to demand a site assessment.

The crossing point is really dangerous not all drivers stop especially the coach drivers. The speed limit also needs to be reduced.

I have personally witnessed near-misses at this crossing point, with the majority of all traffic (both motorised and pedestrian) for both schools and the pre-school using this bit of road. Pressure on parking does not help.

This needs urgent action. My daughter was nearly knocked off her bike last week by a car driving too fast and not looking when it was a busy 3pm school finish time.

Please listen. The recent housing developments have brought so many new people in our community that are not aware children have historically crossed here and anticipate cars to slow and stop. We do not want a tradgedy. Young lives should be valued above cost savings and efficiencies.

This is a 'must' have crossing. Years ago my own mother was knocked down by a car, breaking her leg in this very same situation taking me to school. Let's not wait until it is really serious. As a parent at Farmors the lack of crossing, poor disability because of parked cars and lots of hyperactive children really concerns me.

New double size reception class. Large number of children crossing road to school at this point in the road. Huge recent increase in population of Fairford.

This is such an obvious, easily implemented, idea. Anything that can be done to avoid a forseable tragedy, should be done surely?

My friend's two boys attend this school. This adjustment to the road would be a positive addition, helping children cross the road safely and slowing traffic down.
