The City of Casey is in great need of a Youth Centre.
Currently, there is no active Youth Centre within the Casey region, only Youth Service Centres, that offer general information for youth on events and activities, family and youth support and education.
But the youth need more!!
They need a place where they can 'hang out' without feeling like they are being a 'nuisance'. At the moment they are using the Fountain Gate Shopping Centre as a local 'hang out' spot. This cant go on any longer. The police are called out numerous times daily by the security at the Shopping Centre, because the youth are seen as 'loitering' and have no place they can go.
They need a safe environment where they can just hang out, and also provide them with work-shops, general life skills and counselling.
By signing this petition, it enables our voice to be heard for a proposed Youth Drop-In Centre. Once target number of signatures is reached, this will be put before the Casey Council.

Spent the afternoon at the shopping centre and saw exactly what I expected. The kids have nowhere to go and security is still clearing them out. This is exactly why we need the centre now.

I think it's imperative that we sow into this next generation and give them a place where they can grow and develop and help unlock the gifts and potential in each child. Not all children are able to get this support from home for a variety of reasons. Families are under all sorts of stress and pressure. I think this is a great initiative and hope it gets the attention it deserves from the Casey Council.
It is so sad seeing the kids just sitting on the floor at the shops. They need somewhere to actually go that is safe and fun. Hope this happens soon.

As a youth worker, I understand the need for such a centre. I work closely with many of the "fountain gate kids" and I find it to be so damaging and unfair that the general public doesn't want them there. They are awesome kids who deserve a space of their own!
