Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council recently decided that Redcar Youth Centre (recently renamed Vibe) would be closed and services moved to the new My Place building located on Majuba Road. The current venue (Redcar Youth Centre) has the following facilities: Large Chill Out Room - With projection screen, sound system, DJ Booth, Disco Lights. Rear Yard - With basketball hoop, canopy over seating area, planters. Large Kitchen - Dual ovens, sinks and other facilities. Separate Chill Out room (more relaxed than the lounge) - With large TV, PC and xbox. Coffee Bar area - With enough seating for 20 people and 2 networked computers. Gym - Equipped with Cross Trainer, Bike, 2 Rowing Machines, 2 Treadmills. The centre has recently been decorated to the young people's taste, and re branded to Vibe! Also a fast computer network has been installed. We petition Redcar and Cleveland that if this centre is closed and the service moved to My Place (which is an out of the blue decision with no consultation), that they pledge to ensure that there are rooms made available, and kept available for use as is currently employed in Coatham Road (like for like). We petition that Redcar and Cleveland Council allows the Youth and Community Service OPEN ACCESS to the centre to deliver their youth centre programme on ANY night and that any decisions such as decoration etc is left in the hands of the YOUNG PEOPLE as is currently the case. (Young people decided to start this petition, they have been given support only by the youth work staff. The youth work staff have remained unbiased).
