*Update* Despite Haringey Council now saying that Bruce Grove Youth Centre will be 'kept open', they are not saying how or what format. It could be a Sainsburys for all we know so the fight continues.

To Mr Nick Walkley and Councillor Claire Kober and Haringey council.

We are signing this petition because we support the young people of Haringey in wanting to save their youth service, youth centre in Bruce grove and the youth council. We believe the proposals to cut this service and close this youth centre do not make any sense and ask you to think again and not cut the youth service, and not close bruce grove youth centre and not sack our youth workers before you make a mistake that damages our borough.

Our story

- We found out the council has proposed to close our youth centre and cut our youth service from one of our parents. No one from the council has told us this was their plan.

- When we read about this on the Haringey council website we were upset to read how the council has made our youth centre look bad. It is used by over 200 young people from the Tottenham area including people with disabilities who will have no where else to go.

- It is not true that the youth centre and youth workers do not help us. They help us very much with personal problems, help getting a job, help with homework and they teach us things to be better people.

- We invite anyone to come to the youth centre in bruce grove in the new year and see it for themselves. We also invite the chief executive and the council leader who have not visited it before.

- We are upset that the description on the council website is tricking people to support cutting and closing us by making people think this is "investing in young people".

- We would like for someone to talk to us and ask us what we want. We understand that managers are telling politicians that they have asked us and we support these proposals. Those of us that attend bruce grove youth centre, our elected youth councillors and our elected uk youth parliament representative have not been asked anything.

- Our youth workers really help us and our youth centre is always busy and gives us something to do and helps us with a lot of problems our parents and teachers do not.

- We believe closing our youth centre and sacking our youth workers will make life for us worse and we do not understand why the council is doing this.

- Since the riots everyone says they will help young people and this is not helping.

- The youth service and youth centre is used by hundreds of young people who chooseto use the service. this is a good thing so why damage it?

We have already met with David Lammy MP and will continue to campaign

We hope you can help save our youth centre and youth service. Please sign this petition.

Thank you to all of the residents and organisations on twitter who have sent us kind words. We are glad we are not alone.

Reaching one thousand signatures will demonstrate a clear consensus to the council that these services remain essential. Please help us cross this threshold so our momentum reflects the true scale of community concern.

January 1, 2015

The council has offered vague assurances about the building but they have failed to address the future of the actual services provided inside. It is clear that keeping the doors unlocked is not the same as maintaining a functional youth program for our community.

We are approaching one hundred signatures and this shows that our community is deeply concerned about the future of Bruce Grove. Please take a moment to forward this link to someone who values our youth services as much as you do. Reaching this milestone helps us demonstrate the true scale of our concern to the council.

it's good that Haringy are saying the will keep the youth centre open, but we need assurances that it will continue to provide the vital services to the local young community, and keep the jobs for the youth workers, without whom there is no provision.

I feel the youth centre should be kept open as i beleive young people need this service, my son is disable and enjoy socialise well in this service. some young people only have the youth centre to go and socialise.

After the riots we had time to reflect and acknowledge we needed to help our children. They need this youth centre and we should provide. If you ask people in Tottenham to pay an extra £5 a year council tax to keep it open, all would pay.

Disturbing to hear that despite all of the rhetoric around the regeneration, this is what the council are proposing. Get Spurs to hand over their Section 106 funding and then use it to keep this centre open and staff in place

Bruce grove youth centre has served this community for decades. It has saved hundreds of young people from gang life, prison and worse, death. It gives our children something to help them succeed. Closing this is nothing more than vandalism.

Number 10 Bruce Grove Road was bequeathed to the young boys of Tottenham. It should be retained as such, the LA should not be closing down its youth provision when it has no alternatives to offer young people.
