Recently an evaluation on Woodstock properties in Cape Town has been done, but without inspection or visiting the premises. The residents of Woodstock have until the end of March 2019 to object to the valuation of their properties.Majority of Woodstock residents have had their property evaluated with at least 200% increase.

You can object on the valuation given for your property by logging into your egov services. Click the link below, login and Click Municipal Accounts Tab.

https://eservices.capetown.gov.za/irj/portal .

Though an objection can be made on the valuation of your property, the community of Woodstock should rather object on the increase of our rates and taxes.

Our rates and taxes in Woodstock are not being utilized. The roads are not cleaned, the vegetation is not kept or trimmed. Why should the residents of Woodstock pay more rates and taxes if they are not being used in the first place. If you are part of the community of Woodstock and agree with this statement please sign this petition, so it can be sent to the City of Cape Town. The community of Woodstock should only pay higher rates and taxes, if it is put to good use.

PLEASE NOTE DONATIONS ARE FOR USING THE IPETITION PLATFORM AND NOT FOR THE PETITION ITSELF. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO MAKE ANY DONATIONS.

Updates

March 12, 2019

Seeing this grow is exhausting but it proves we are not alone in our frustration with these unfair valuations. I am tired of the silence from the city and this momentum keeps me moving forward.

Rates paid are not going back into the area, in fact over the last years resources available to Woodstock have decreased, while exorbitant rates and gentrification of the area have forced people to leave - community used to have access to a soccer field which has been privatised; pool was closed, Poor water management has resulted in water levy etc.

I fully support this petition. The rate increase is ridiculous! Why should my rates be so much higher because i purchased my house last year at very inflated prices - all the other houses in the area have increased marginally. My rates are 70% higher compared to the other houses in the area that are the same size. It is absurd!

My home has increased to a not market related value. We cannot even sell our house for what it has been valued for, where does COCT thumb suck these figures from???

why should the value of the area rates be increased . They should no that this community is made up of a diverse people low middle class and the rich by doing that they are trying to get rid of the people that has been staying the area for years.that was the same ta tics that is been used in the bo-kaap

The valuation on my house has more than doubled from R1,175,000 to 2,390,000. More than 200%. Why? The streets are never cleaned, nor are the gutters. I have made no renovations to my house since 2015 to justify this astronomical increase in the value of my house. Crime had increased and is beyond control and the police don't do anything about it

If funds were utilized to impose by-laws ( e.g. combatting anti social behavior , noise control , DP’s ) and ensure service delivery , I would gladly pay the increase , this is however not the case in our neighbourhood

I am opposed to such a sharp increase in rates and taxes on our property.

More resources to the area to justify the drastic jump.
