The board is considering options to replace or eliminate the existing street lights. We are reaching out to ask for your feedback regarding the options we are considering.
Current situation:
There are 7 street lights in Weston Woods today. They are outdated and not all functioning optimally. It is timely to consider options.
Options the board is considering along with some high level details:
- Option A: Eliminate 6 of the street lights, replace 1 street light on the east end of Weston Woods
- Lower costs after removal of the 6 street lights - less electricity, repair and maintenance
- The work would be done prior to vegetation growth next spring
- Replace the one street light on the east end of Weston Woods. Even with house lights on, this is a “dark spot” and needs to be illuminated at night
- Initial cost for the removal and street light replacement is approximately $6000 (refined once receive bids/proposals)
- The garage lights along with the additional lighting (spot and path) provide enough lighting for the safety and security of the Weston Woods community as long as the lighting standards are consistently maintained by the homeowners per the guidelines/rules
- Option B: Replace the 7 street lights
- Upgrade the look (potentially something similar to what is in the Ron Clark development)
- There will be an initial investment to remove the old street lights and put up the new street lights. Per various resources, the approximate cost is $28,000 (refined once receive bids/proposals)
- Consider LED street lights as they are more energy efficient than non-LED. Comparable wattage LED lights for updated street lights typically cost 50% less to operate than non-LED. A non-led street light can cost approximately $.36 cents a day, a comparable LED street light can cost less than $.18 a day (sources note various cost savings)
- Consider solar if a solar solution can provide the lumens necessary for the hours needed
- Street lights generally have a life expectancy of 20+ years
- The work would be done prior to vegetation growth next spring
- Along with the current guidelines/rules, the new street lights could be a good investment in the safety and security of the Weston Wood community

The board will be determining a path forward after the budget meeting in October and will keep the Weston Woods community updated.

We are fortunate to have a street light in front of our home and one in back of our home We think they are part of the “look” of Weston Woods. The lighting in our community is important. We support the group decision, but feel they are a positive focus. We feel more than one on the East end should be kept. We hope the costs for the lights would be covered by our monies. Thank you for asking the homeowners. We are hoping for option B
Both options are good for WW. I prefer Option 1. Has there been much crime in the last five years? (other than a car stolen). Option 1: Can the garage/entry lights be solar? I think they provide enough light. The only drawback is the number of bugs on the siding of the property that needs to be cleaned occasionally. Option 2: Don't think 7 lights are necessary but it would look nice and add value to the property. Maybe one light at each entrance. If solar can be used that would be a plus.

Having finally made a nighttime assessment, I concur: a lamp is needed at the east end, but the others are lost a mid the garage lights on homes. My vote is to remove all lamps, but the one at the east end.
