The WVMS Instrumental and Choral program has been canceled for the 2020-21 school year, without any notice to parents. We are the only school in the Lower Merion School District that has made this decision, rather than continuing with instrumental and choral education with COVID appropriate adjustments. We, the parents of WVMS music students, demand that the music program is reinstated immediately and proceeds with consultation of our music faculty and concerned parents and students.

This is one of the best examples of public school music education in the country. The students are smarter and more rounded because of it. Music and the Arts have been vital to the quality of life and social connection both before and during the quarantine. The repercussions of loosing this will be felt for years.

Happy to stand with parents/community to advocate & support my friend Mr. Eskin and the amazing music music program at WVMS. His students are often some of the finest musicians at our annual SVAB & SVAO festivals. Music education is a vital part of the education and enrichment of children and it’s even more critical now. Best of luck to you all!

Research repeatedly indicates that schools and students with access to high quality music education perform better in a multitude of academic, social and emotional ways. We know that music sharpens attentiveness, equips students to be creative, supports self-esteem and strengthens perseverance – all attributes that feel more valuable than ever as our children struggle with the realities of Covid.

I am a proud LMSD alumnus and resident. I am music teacher today because of the strong, valued music programs in LMSD. Do not take choir, band, and orchestra from these students during the time when they need it most.

As a music educator in another district, I can attest that music can be made with precautions. Cutting programs is more detrimental to the whole child.

I am the spouse of a WVMS music teacher. My understanding of this decision is not a reflection of what the teachers of the music department desire. I know that my husband wants, more than anything, to keep instrumental music alive in your young musicians. Thank you for speaking out. Hopefully your voices will be heard.

This is wrong on ALL levels and must be rectified!! I know many of these kids and know how devastated they must be! A lot of talent is being lost!
