Stroudsburg School District is proud of its Music Program. Currently the beginning 4th grade strings program and the beginning 5th grade band program have the same amount of students. The strings program has one dedicated teacher. The band program has a full time teacher who also is responsible for the 7th grade band and general music classes. In past years, the 5th grade band teacher had lesson groups of a maximum 8 students allowing for quality instruction. The lesson groups are now reaching up to 20 students! The school board recently posted a job opening for a 5th grade band lessons assistant teacher. The posting was removed without explanation. Please sign this petition asking the board to reconsider the lack of staffing at the beginner level of our music program.

I really thought this might just float around the neighborhood unnoticed but the momentum here is honestly making my head spin. It feels like people actually get how hard it is to teach twenty kids at once when they are just picking up their instruments for the first time which is a huge relief honestly because I was worried I was the only one stressing about this.

You know the important of music. Do not deny Stroudsburg students the opportunity to learn to play a band instrument! We need an additional 5th grade band instructor.
Beginning musicians need to be nourished. That cannot happen with 20 children in a class for group instruction! If they don't get the encouragement they need need they will get frustrated and quit. Lets do what is best for our children and hire another teacher so they can get the best music education possible!
I live in the district and I support an additional instrumental music teacher at the middle school level. Smaller lesson groups are important to successful learning at the beginning level. Please support the history of excellence in music education which is a long tradition in the district. Your student musicians learn skills that make them student leaders.
It is unbelievable and unrealistic that anyone would even consider putting that many kids in a lesson group.
My children, and now my grandchildren are involved in the SASD music programs. The dedication of the teachers is, and always has been, exemplary. Please don't allow disintegration of the music program. The teachers are overburdened and need help. I implore you to keep music alive and well in the SASD. Thank you.

Both of our girls graduated from Stroudsburg and were very active in all music groups starting in 4th and 5th grade. One is now a music teacher and the other will be graduating with a music degree. Stroudsburg has an incredible program with incredible staff.... don't ruin it. Marina & Jim Maroney
