XXX We stand opposed to having a shooting/archery range built in close proximity to Dolsen Elementary School
The families and friends of Dolsen Elementary School are asking that the Lyon Township Board of Trustees not give final approval to build a very large indoor shooting range and outdoor archery range in the location currently proposed near the school. We feel that there is available land in the Township that would be more suitable to this facility. We are concerned for the safety and health of the children of Dolsen and the new risks this business would bring to their environment.

I met with township planning staff this week to review the zoning ordinances relevant to this proposal. We are currently drafting a formal letter for the upcoming Board of Trustees meeting to ensure our concerns regarding school proximity are officially entered into the public record.

I do not agree with the location for this development. Right next to an elementary school?! My 5 year old came home from school on Friday scared after having to practice an intruder drill. I am very disappointed to hear that the elected officials are in favor of this location. They do not have my support and never will if they support gun ranges next to schools!
There is no need for a gun range so close to an elementary school (and frankly, so close to the rail trail). With there being a shooting range nearby at Island Lake, this proposed site is not necessary. Please reconsider for the safety of our community!
With so many parcels of land available outside of a school district, why place this so near children? Lead in the air, noise pollution, visibility to children, etc, I think it is completely wrong and indeed harmful to children.
The placement of a gun range adjacent to Dolsen elementary school defies all logic. A more suitable location would be along Grand River in the industrial section. I cannot even believe this is happening.
As a parent of 2 Dolsen students and mental health provider, I am very opposed to the location of this gun range. Keeping our children safe in a world where schools have become a target should be the first thing on everyone's agenda. Let's move it to a more appropriate place.

Everyone should be against this. They can have this range outside in a safe zone where no one can hear those sounds. If we want to make America great again then it's only possible with these children.

As an elementary school teacher for over 25 years I have lived my life through the eyes of a child before and after Columbine. The placement of a gun range beside an elementary will raise fear and confusion in a large population of children. A gun range will serve its purpose more effectively in a different location.
