We the undersigned withdraw our consent from the Dept. of Health to negotiate contracts without consulting all GPs. We wish to claim our rights as workers under EU law so that every GP in Ireland has a say in their own future. The current means of achieving terms and conditions of employment are unjust and no longer acceptable. Irish GPs are the only EU workers contracted to work 24/7/365 but have no way to change this. Treating us this way is unfair and unsustainable as stated recently by the President of the Irish Medical Council.

The emails I receive from exhausted colleagues confirm that the current system is truly breaking us. I am spending my evenings documenting these experiences because nobody at the Department of Health seems to want to listen to the reality on the ground.

Thanks Michael for organising this. Left IMO years ago... Not representing ordinary, on-the-ground, Rural, single-handed GPs
24/7/365 days cover is not possible for the humans , it is suitable for the Robots .
I am not a member of the IMO. I am not represented by them. I am an individual contractor
Congratulations for trying to shift the status quo. It is time that the anomaly of being trapped as "contractors" yet treated as "employees" is at least out in the open and discussed, and the first part of this is removing the monopoly of incongruity which the IMO has. Good people within a flawed organisation with a lot of distasteful baggage ........ however, bashing the IMO is NOT a solution, and it behoves each of us as individual GPs to try and positively contribute to finding alternative solutions.
General practice erosion is heartbreaking. As Ciara Kelly said these new proposals eg extension of under 6 free care are simply 'deckchairs on the Titanic'...IMO and the academic representatives are totally out of touch and certainly do not represent my opinion.

I ask that the health minister does not assume that the IMO represents all GPs in Ireland and does not unilaterally introduce any contract extensions regarding free health care without the consent of the majority of GPs
