Ml I am delighted you have taken a position . I am about to retire and not very involved anymore . Some years ago at a meeting in Cork I called my colleagues ‘Sheep’ and I still believe it . I cannot understand why you did not get over 1000 . If the competition act goes unchallenged nothing will change - it is an impossible hurdle . You speak a lot of sense

I left the IMO years ago (without affecting my pension). At one time I was a committed member, and did my term as secretary of the North-East branch, but it has lost its way, and is now a weakness rather than a strength for GPs.

Congratulations for trying to shift the status quo. It is time that the anomaly of being trapped as "contractors" yet treated as "employees" is at least out in the open and discussed, and the first part of this is removing the monopoly of incongruity which the IMO has. Good people within a flawed organisation with a lot of distasteful baggage ........ however, bashing the IMO is NOT a solution, and it behoves each of us as individual GPs to try and positively contribute to finding alternative solutions.
