Have you or someone you know been affected by the conflicting laws of crossing the border of Albury Wodonga? Sign this petition to show your support in getting these laws set straight!
So many NSW/VIC provisional drivers are getting fines or worse, loss of licence due to the conflicting laws between both states!

The difference in the laws include:
NSW - Learners & Provisional 1 drivers must not exceed the speed limit of 90km and Provisional 2 drivers 100km. Provisional 1 drivers can have as many passengers of any age up until 11pm through to 5am. If the driver is under the age o 21 they are allowed one passenger under the age of 25, if the passengers over 25 there are no restrictions on how many you can carry.
VIC - Learners, Provisional 1 & Provisional 2 drivers can drive at the speed limit posted (which can be up to 110km on the freeway). Provisional 1 drivers must not carry more than one peer passenger aged 16 to less than 22 years of age.
Many say we follow the laws of our license but others say we follow the laws of the state we're travelling into. There is a big difference between these different restrictions which can lead to a nasty fine up to $500, which in our (teens aged 17-19) cannot afford!

Please sign this petition in hope to open the eyes of the police stations on both sides of the border that things need to be changed! Too much confusion! We need clarification!

I started this because I was frustrated by the confusion, but hearing all your personal stories about these fines has shown me just how many people are being caught in the middle. I am currently putting together a formal request to get some actual guidance from the authorities so we can finally have a clear answer. This momentum belongs entirely to you.

The variations of these rules are ridiculous and the confusion is getting out of hand. As NSW P-Platers the RTA tells us that we must follow the rules of our licence, yet Victorian police claim they can only enforce the laws of their state. We can't spend 3-4 years of our lives worried about being slapped with $500 fine everytime we cross the border. Nation wide uniformity would be ideal, but any form of AGREED and UNITED clarification would be welcomed at this point in time.

As a young provisional license holder living on the Border I find it extremely difficult to comply with road laws as I travel between the two states. I am struggling to know how to follow the rules when conflicting laws are not explicitly explained - change is necessary.

These rules are a joke just yesterday I received a $466 fine and three demerit points for driving three friends to Yarrawonga. These rules need to be clarified.

Legislation needs to be made National. Living in a border town makes it very confusing because the police and licencing authorities for each state are confused at times. So how can motorists get it right if the authorities can't. This is a great initiative from a young person and young people are our future and have a lot to contribute. A change in the legislation would certainly be a step in the right direction for all laws relating to driving for young and old.

This has been a nightmare for many years. And wether you get booked or doesn't go on wether you're doing as you've been told as much as wether the policeman is having a good or not. Clarification needs to happen neither nsw or vic police seem to know what is the go! Someone must and the general public need to now!
