Just a few weeks ago, the Labour administration of Wirral Council failed to move forward on a budget that would protect the council tax discount for all local pensioners.

Think about that — here’s something that most people on Wirral would support, and yet it’s somehow not an issue for the Labour Party, who were elected to represent all residents of Wirral. That’s truly horrible.

But frustration doesn’t get us anywhere if it doesn’t translate into taking action.

That’s why we launched a petition to show just how many local residents refuse to back down on this issue. Sign our petition today, and demand that Labour re-instate the pensioner discount.

The discount in Council Tax for people who have worked hard all their lives, and may now be on fixed incomes, or live in a home with high council tax, but limited money in the bank, is a vital help for many local pensioners.

By voting against keeping the pensioner discount, these 36 Labour councillors are basically telling you, your parents or your grand parents that they don’t deserve a little help at this time of life.

If you’re like us, and refuse to accept that this is something we can’t change, your signature belongs on this petition today, and send Labour a message by voting Conservative on May 22nd.

Sign the petition now to show your support for re-instating the full pensioner discount

I have been hearing from so many of you who are terrified about how you will manage your budgets once this cut takes full effect. My own parents are facing the same impossible choice between heating their home and paying their council tax bill. We are continuing to track down every councillor who thought this was acceptable so they understand exactly what they have done to our neighbors.

Seeing this momentum grow proves that our neighbors refuse to abandon those who built this community. It feels like the tide is finally turning against these heartless cuts.

I cant believe that this should even be considered I have worked since I was 15years old and I am still working now because I had my pension put back because of the government and now they want to stop my council tax discount . IT IS AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE

My mum is 82 and she really relies on this discount to get by. Labour have absolutely lost the plot if they think they can squeeze pensioners like this.

Ridiculous decision. We have paid our way all our lives and now we are treated like a burden.

this is unfair on those of us on fixed pensions. things are expensive enough as it is without them taking away our help.

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING BEHAVIOUR FROM THE COUNCIL. Do they not have parents of their own?
