Uttlesford District Council has consulted on changes to the Local Council Tax Support Scheme, and the Cabinet is recommending that the councillors agree to change the liability cap so that non-vulnerable working age people previously on full Council Tax Benefit shall pay 12.5% of the Council Tax bill (an increase from the present 8.5% figure).

We the undersigned call on the Council to vote against this heartless proposal.

We confirm that we have not previously responded to this consultation.

I am currently organizing the testimony we will present to the Cabinet to show the real impact of these tax hikes. Email your local councillor today and demand they vote against this increase. Post the link to this petition on Facebook to ensure our neighbors know exactly what is at stake.

The momentum is building and it proves that people will not stand by while the council hikes taxes on the most vulnerable. Now is the time to turn this pressure into action. Call your local councillor today and demand they vote against this increase.

This seems an iniquitous imposition on the poorest in our district - a district which is one of the wealthiest to boot

how can people on benefits possibly afford to pay more. These do not rise in line with inflation and their real inflation rate is far higher in any case

Money, money ,money. Must grab money, fill the coffers up! Houses, houses must build houses, fill the coffers up. Raise our taxes , raise the taxes, fill the coffers up! Sitting pretty, sitting pretty, councils feeling smug! And so on.....
