The grant came through and the work to restore the Bloody Steps is finally happening. It has been a long and draining road but we held our ground until the funding was secured. Stay close as we watch the progress on the ground.

PETITION TO IMPROVE RUGELEY EYESORE:

The footpath from Wolseley Road, Rugeley, leading to the Historic 'Bloody Steps' and Brindley Bank access to the Trent and Mersey Canal, has become a run-down eyesore which attracts antisocial behaviour. This is an important link from the Town of Rugeley to the Canalside and Staffordshire Way.

A local Community Action Group (Waterways Action Team Rugeley) has been set up to upgrade this area. WATR have applied for a £48,000 Lottery Grant to help fund the planned improvements, which are:

Upgrade of footpath from Wolseley Road, including Information Signs, Dog Mess Bin and Litter Bin. Renovation of 'Bloody Steps'.

Improvements to Brindley Bank area at base of steps including: Removal of litter, clearance of scrub and landscaping enhancements. Installation of bat boxes and soft banking for water voles.

Renovation of canal bank, and installation of fishing platform and picnic table. Removal of graffiti on aqueduct wall, and repaint fencing.

IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL WITH THE LOTTERY BID, WE NEED TO SHOW THAT THE LOCAL COMMUNITY SUPPORT THE PLANNED IMPROVEMENTS.

PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT BY SIGNING THIS PETITION!

PLEASE NOTE THAT AFTER SIGNING THE PETITION, YOU WILL BE TAKEN TO ANOTHER PAGE WHICH IS ASKING FOR A DONATION - THIS IS NOTHING TO DO WITH US, AND WE WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS PAGE WHEN SETTING UP THE PETITION! THERE IS NO NEED TO GIVE A DONATION!!!!!!! JUST CLICK 'CLOSE' AND YOUR SIGNATURE WILL BE ADDED TO THE PETITION,

Thank you.

Seeing this much support for the Bloody Steps makes all the long hours spent staring at paperwork feel worth the effort. It is exhausting work to keep pushing for these changes, but knowing the town is behind this project keeps me going.

Spent so many hours fishing here as a kid. Sad to see how run down it has got. Hope they get the funding.

Get the graffiti off and fix the path. It looks like a tip.

Need more places for families to walk in Rugeley. Stop letting it rot away.

Used to walk this way all the time years ago. It is a total disgrace now. Always full of trash and broken glass. Sort it out.
