We have been in contact with Sandy Hickman, Councillor at Large for City of St. John's regarding the issue with speeding vehicles on Treetop Drive. Our concern, as a neighbourhood is the safety of our children. The set speed limit is 50km but with added traffic from the new Orange Store and people trying to beat the lights on Southland Blvd we have added traffic with people pushing more then the recommended speed.
We are requesting to have an electronic watch your speed sign put in place or ideally a speed bump to slow traffic down.

People (EVERYONE) should drive slower everywhere, especially in residential areas. Children and adults are getting hurt because drivers have to get to their destinations 30 seconds or 2 minutes faster. Come on people.... is 30 seconds worth a person's life?
50km is the same speed as the main roads throughout the city and is not a sensible speed in an area where so many children are at play. Nowhere near my house in Elizabeth Park is there a residential street with a speed limit above 30km.
There is an issue with speeding vehicles on Treetop Drive, Southlands - a six-year boy was struck and family is asking for electronic "watch your speed" or speed bumps. I am supporting the family's petition to have this done. Thank you!
People lose sight of how fast they are really going, and are always in a rush. Now look!! Signs wont change much.......definitely need speed bumps on some residential streets!! Speed limit in neighbourhoods should be 30km (Mandatory)!!!!
I don't live in Southlands, but on occasion drive in the neighborhood, doing a respectful 40-45 kms, as it's a fairly active neighborhood with pedestrians, cyclist, many of them children. Please, folks, have some respect for those who live/play in this area!
Speed bumps are a must in our area - they won't pay any attention to signage!!

I grew up in Southlands, on Treetop Drive. I find it extra horrifying that a little boy was struck by a car in an area where my siblings and I, walked and played as children ourselves. It is a residential area, not a highway. Slow down.
