VCUQ students have expressed a concern regarding the pricing in relation to the portion of the food served by the Butterfly cafeteria in VCUQ. The student affairs would like to raise this issue on behalf of students. As a proposal, we would like the cafeteria to either reduce the pricing or provide student subsidy.

Updates

December 8, 2014

I am currently gathering the specific student testimony needed to present a formal case to the administration. Send an email to your student representative today to demand that they prioritize our request for subsidized meals.

The momentum behind this push for fair pricing shows that the cafeteria administration cannot keep ignoring our concerns. Post this link on your Instagram story right now and email the student affairs office to demand an immediate meeting with the food service provider.

Poor quality food that is often cold, overcooked or too salty. The sandwiches hardly have any filling - the servers have probably been trained to put in as little as possible. The pricing matrix forces you to buy more than you need.

The food is of poor quality and too high of price. Perhaps, the problem is that no one informed Butterfly of VCUQ's expectations of quality and selection? If it is not possible to change vendors, then it would make sense to have a meeting with Butterfly to state our expectations and discuss how they can be met.

Had the salad twice, and it made me sick both times. Also I'd rather not pay 25 riyals for 4 pieces of chicken and a spoonful of under cooked vegetables.

I highly agree that the price is too high and the inconsistent food portions. We are just students that do not have a consistent income or time to prepare food for some days, so the cafeteria should be more helpful and be more considerate!

Prices are up 150-200% compared to the previous catering company, for a 25-30% decrease in portion size. Inconsistent quality. Regular unavailability of items - scrambled eggs, etc. A number of students were rushed to the hospital because of food poisoning. Non responsive staff.

I honestly think the food quality is better than previous service, the overpricing would be the only issue.

Over here priced. Ive heard from a couple of people who got food poisoning. There is no variety with the food.

I have never had anything from the cafeteria, what I heard is more than enough; over priced, undercooked, unorganised, etc. Not only it's not budget-friednly for students, but also for faculty and staff. This is pure profit making and it's not right.
