Dear Sir,

The student body of Sabanci University comprises of an overwhelming majority of scholarship-holders of both international and national level from foundation year up to doctorate level. For this majority the annual increase in cafeteria food prices have made eating expenses unaffordable. International students and the majority of local students cannot bear thesemeal prices, which we feel to be exorbitant, along with the high cost of life in Istanbul.

Worsening the situation is that alongside an increase in food prices for three years, there has been no increase in student stipends. With the current boost in meal price, almost half of the scholarship money received will be spent on meals alone.

After evaluating the whole situation, we all believe that the expenditure of food which is the most basic necessity of life is far too costly and results in an unwanted obstacle in our strenuous education, thus making the management of our expenses extremely difficult.

Besides, the quality of food and ingredients needs a drastic attention and coordination. Comparing to the other schools, the quality of meals are not acceptable.

Therefore we sincerely urge you for a student-friendly, low-costmodification to address a most basic human need. Given the fact that this issue has been arisen before for the Sabanci student community, we have full confidence and faith in you that a new decision will be implemented.

We all recognize the support which you have always shown to the students, and write this petition with this respect in mind.
