Hi WGKP families and our Lanham park community,
Over the years we have had many families that have experienced "near-misses" with reversing cars in the Lanham park car park. We have been working with the local council, who have now agreed to build a new footpath in front of the parked cars (on the playground side).
To further improve the safety of our families entering and leaving the kindy, we are in the process of putting in for a grant to be able to build a new entrance for the kindy. This entrance would directly line up with the new council footpath, and would be a safer and more inclusionary access for our families entering and leaving the kindy. (Re-directing children to walk in front of the parked cars and not behind them).
The kindy committee and the staff members would greatly appreciate your time to register your support on this e-petition (it takes 1 minute of your time and it's free) so that we can include support on our grant application. Any words of encouragement, or feedback of how this will improve the safety for our families would be appreciated.
The new entrance would also allow us to better utilise the old entrance space, enclosing it for additional space for the kindy, which we believe would be a practical place to make a new administration office and small parents room. Our staff members work in less then 9m2 of office space (which includes the big photocopier machine). Having a staff member at the front of the building (like in other nearby kindys - Lutwyche Windsor and also Newmarket bank st) would allow staff to know whose coming and going from our kindy during the day. More safety for our kids!

Seeing this level of backing has honestly been a huge weight off my shoulders. It is exhausting work to keep pushing for these safety improvements but knowing you are behind this makes the slog feel worth it.

I fully support the BCC grant to re-configure the entry for the kindy. It's a much needed improvement to this facility. The existing entrance is many years behind the safer, more inclusionary entrances that service other C&K facilities in Brisbane.
Our precious grandchildren would benefit from a safer entry to their community based kindergarten. (Grandchildren attending WGKP 2017, 2018, 2019).
We fully support proposed changes to the entrance way to the Kindy so that it better links to the planned new footpath, but most importantly so that safety for our children is improved.
As part of my work providing in home childcare, I often do drop offs & pick ups at Grange kindy, a gate with entry to parkland instead of carpark would make pick up & drop offs so much safer for all families.
I fully support WGKP application for this grant, which seeks to improve functionality and safety for the children and families that attend this kindy now and into the future.
This is a very essential initiative to improve the safety of families coming and going from the Kindy.

Please protect the children attending the WGK by upgrading the car park with a new footpath. Near misses are not good enough and a footpath is small investment to make to ensure the safety of our most precious little one.s
