As you maybe aware the School and the P&C have been in discussion with the Hunters Hill council for some time about improving the traffic flow on Earl Street to aid the safe drop off and pick up of the children before and after school.
The Hunters Hill council has proposed a 9 car set down bay along Earl Street outside the school. While the 9 car set down bay will greatly improve the traffic flow and as a result the safety for the children during drop off and pick up, the construction of the set down bays does require the removal of the Moreton Bay fig tree. Some residents of Earl Street have voiced their disagreement to the removal of the tree and have asked the council for an alternative solution. The council did offer an alternative that we believe did not meet the objectives of improving the traffic flow and most importantly the safe drop off and pick up of the children.
The Hunters Hill council will now be considering this matter at their next meeting on 22nd May 2017 and the P&C and the School will be in attendance at that meeting to make our case for the construction of the set down bays. Any parent that wishes to attend the meeting to show their support for this initiative is welcome to join us or if they are unable to attend if you could sign the attached petition to signify your support for this development.

The momentum behind this petition is undeniable and the Hunters Hill council can no longer pretend that the residents opposing our safety measures represent the community. We are forcing them to acknowledge that our children's lives are more important than a single tree. Keep the pressure on these officials because they are finally starting to sweat.

Safety of our most precious resource should be the number one priority over anything else. Besides, the tree is not native, the children are.
Has anyone suggested to the council to make it a one way street. I know for a fact being a Earl street resident that the majority feel this would be a great idea.
New tree can be planted elsewhere. Earl St congestion needs to be improved so that zone does not hinder other traffic as will only get worse as school population with working parents grows.
It's a positive proposal: construction of a 9 car set down bay in Earl St outside the school will help to reduce the number of cars banked back past the roundabout at school pick up time which often causes the Princes & Earl St roundabout to become blocked preventing all other traffic from getting through.
It is unfortunate but there is no doubt that retaining the tree creates increased traffic hazards for the children, teachers and the rest of the community who use Earl street. The knock-on effect also creates traffic hazards back onto Prince Street. The tree itself, while lovely, is also damaging the footpath and creating falls hazards.
Safety for our children should always come before a tree.

I love our beautiful, majestic trees, but I love our precious children far more. Their safety is imperative. Thank you!
