Started by Chemistry 1501 second semester class of 2019 6 years, 9 months ago
The paper was not consistent with the expectations of the students. Students prepared so much and wasted so much time, only to find the examination paper had proved to be much harder than planned.

Many of the questions had not been seen before. The questions of the examination were too complex for the average student and the examination was nothing like ANY past paper.

The examination was extremely demotivating for us students since our future depends on our examination results. No student would want to fail in spite of working hard.

It was supposed to be a General Chemistry 1A examination paper, not a Masters in chemistry examination paper.

Students were supposed to be tested, not tricked. When one builds a house, we start with the foundation, not the roof. This examination paper was the roofing part of the house.

UNISA aught to ensure that the exam papers are consistent from year-to-year.

We request either:
A free rewrite
That our examination marks be discarded and our year marks be taken
There be an upward adjustment of the examination marks to compensate for the unreasonably difficult examination paper

The reach of this petition has surpassed my initial expectations and confirms that many of you share these frustrations regarding the examination. This momentum demonstrates the clear necessity for an official review of the testing standards.

Why would so many tricky questions be on the paper?, as a test at least one new tricky/uknown question should be asked, not 90% of the paper. It feels like students wasted time and money on prescribed book and writing assignments

The Che 1501 paper on 21st October 2019, was not fair enough because the assignments was set the other way any yet the paper was the opposite. I feel that the lecture was supposed to have mention that the structure and questioning has changed. I thank you.

Exam papers are to test the knowledge gained throughout the exposure to a module(by means of assignments and other activities.) Majority of this exam tested knowledge not introduced to us by the assignments. The situation presented to us by this exam was an unfair one!

The question was really unfair and generally caused nervousness going forth with my exam since it was the first paper I wrote. I believe that the students should be compensated by being allowed to rewrite the paper in January and not during supplimamtaries O.S Tlhapane

I found the paper really not for this level...even harder to understand the questions. I have prepared myself and it my final paper to completion of my degree and I'm very did Disappointed on the paperr that was prepared for Che1501 students. Will appreciate a re- write for all.
